android av's

so i just got my daughter a nice new asus tablet and id like to put something on there. i know these may not make that big of a difference from what some say but my wife insists. im thinking about eset and webroot. i dont want to turn this into a vs b but what can anyone tell me about each and maybe why you would select that one not why one is better than the other. but no a vs b just why you like the one you do and how does it work for you. i have a paid lic to both of these which is why i would use these (and 2 of my fav av's)

We have 3 android tablets, and I have 360 on all of them!
I have tried avast, webroot and lookout and they were fine also but I just like 360 the best due to the look of it, functions and also reviews.

 

how is resource usage?

1. Could you be more specific about which 360 product? I believe that there are at least 2 products now.

2. Could you be more specific as to why you prefer it over Lookout and/or Webroot? (I have Lookout on my cell phone and Webroot on my tablet.)

Like I said, I like avast and lookout... honestly didn't leave webroot installed long enough to really test it but 360 is my fav, very simple, not a ton of settings, very nice interface and light.

I tried 360 Mobile Security & 360 Mobile Safe on an old mobile with Android 2.3 & 512 something RAM.

Both were light.

I didn't check every functions, just browsed them & everything seems fine.

Only I had 1 glitch.

When I scanned the mobile with 360 Mobile Security, it mentioned 1 threat & 2 vulnerability found & showed the 3 things properly.

When I scanned the mobile with 360 Mobile Safe, it too mentioned 1 threat & 2 vulnerability found & showed the vulnerabilities but there was no option to see the threat.

I tried Bitdefender Free AV too & it too was light. Good for average users with no configs & excellent detection rates.

I tried Comodo Mobile Security too, it too was light with no probs.

I tried Eset, Kaspersky & Malwarebytes too, all were light with no probs. Malwarebytes looks good too given that the PC version is popular & good.

 

Whatever you run don't forget to toss in Malwarebytes!

I'm running Bitdefender paid on a Nexus 7 2013 and free on an old Allwinner. Because, well, it's Bitdefender...

I liked avast but if you're not rooted you get stuck with useless firewall bloat..

 

Personally, i stick with avast! Mobile Security Free, but before it existent, i was using DrWeb Light. I still consider both as best options by far. Do like avast! a bit more because it has few really neat features. Specifically:

- firewall
- anti-theft
- ability to pattern lock 2 sensitive applications

Plus it seems very good in malware tests so it's something you can rely on.

 

I use 360 Mobile Safe because the scans are exceptionally fast. I've used many different antiviruses on Android, and won't use anything else.

It runs fine on my current temporary phone which has only 512MB of RAM, which I'm using until I get my previosu 2GB RAM phone replaced from China.

 

I use both Malwarebytes and Dr. Web Lite on two Kindle Fire tablets.
(I do not use either of the tablets to access sensitive data or financial sites...they are strictly for entertainment and enjoyment.)

 

I use Malwarebytes and Bitdefender free in my Kindle tablet (Android 4.0.3), both running alongside in real time. Not a problem so far. I also have Adblock Plus installed.

All of them are available from the Amazon shop and so I don't need to allow installations from external sources.

It may be enabled as a "device administrator" in which case you need to deactivate that first in the Security section of Settings. Then you should be able to uninstall.

One more question: in general if I uninstall and don't press "Clear data" then it leaves some data after uninstall?

 

Currently I'm using Avast Free and MBAM. If "anti-theft" is important to you Avast uses what was originally Theft Aware, which was the best in class IMHO. MBAM is also free and together they have no noticeable impact on my phone's performance. I use WSA on my desktops and have run it my phone occasionally too where it worked fine. One advantage is being able to manage all the devices from one web console. Between Avast and WSA I'd say just do a feature comparison - they're both good products - then add MBAM for a second opinion.

 

I'm glad that worked for you. As to the "clear data" option I'm going to guess that it's only relevant while the product is installed - kind of like emptying a browser cache. When you uninstall the data should go away too. Can't say for certain though - maybe someone else can confirm.

I wonder how many people using it don't have a clue about it. Oh well, at least they finally made mention of that fact at play.google a couple or so months ago. Because everyone reads all that before hitting Install.

Otherwise, Avast MSF is pretty darn good.

 

Forgive my ignorance, but I'm still confused about 360. How many 360 products are there?

One link above points to "360 Security- Antivirus, Clean"; then we have the Techsupport page which mentions "360 Mobile Security - Antivirus"; and then we have others mentioning "360 Mobile Safe".

What is the difference between all of these 360 products?!

 

Just two: 360 Security and 360 Mobile Safe.

Mobile Safe adds extra features such as anti-theft.

 

I've been using MBAM on my non-rooted Android phone since it launched. No problems to report.

Previously tried Webroot and Kaspersky. Very reluctant to pay for a yearly subscription.

If you've got a license already then just go for it. Look out for changes to battery life and slowdowns, if any.

I want something light and realtime. The rest is just fluff to me. You can tighten up internal settings manually and Google has it's own locate service for theft and stuff. Given the whole Android app sandboxing thing it's up for debate whether you'd need any protection or not.

I browse and bank with my phone so I keep something on there just in case.

This is a very simplistic statement. There are firewalls that can be used on stock (not rooted) phones, but configuring them to "ensure hackers stay out of your phone" is a daunting task. Cellular phones were designed to be ad platforms with little concern for user privacy IMHO. That said I use Avast Free and feel that it has a good feature set.
