Win 8.1 (Home Edition) built in security features?

I just found out that applocker is only available in windows 8.1 in the enterprise edition. As I use the "Home" edition I am wondering which microsoft windows security features I have/could/should use? My current setup:

Windows 8.1 Home x64:
Comodo Internet Security (full)
MBAM file protection
EMET
NortonDNS
UAC at maximum protection (while using an admin account)

Seems like that setup should be more than enough, possibly even overkill unless it's on a perpetual clickers machine. No need to obsess about security in some cases.

 

Nothing much. But you're using CIS anyway, so that should be more than sufficient enough.

 

LUA, ACL, Integrity Levels, IE settings, SmartScreen, Windows Firewall, Windows Imaging, File History, Windows Defender, System Hardening (services, disable remote connections) etc

P.S. Listed in no particular order

 

What exactly is ACL ? is there any guide on how to use it / set it up ?

Same for "integrity levels" ?

Also: Since I don't have applocker, is there any other way to disable "executing from" in windows? e.g. no executing from download folders, temp folder, etc ?

Thank you zakazak. I had the same questions too. Can someone please post some links on using Windows in-built security features like SRP, ACL etc.. I just upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro and would like to take advantage of these security features.

I see in your signature that you are using AppGuard. From what I have learned, these adjustments come close to AppGuard's protection, but AppGuard is much less of a hassle to set up. This is not meant to discourage you from anything, it's just in case you are wondering about your own setup.

Unfortunately half of those features are missing in Win 8.1 home edition :/

 

As for SRP, try PGS. I can't confirm if it will work in 8.1 or even 8.0, haven't tested it myself yet. There's also a manual (or semi-manual) registry tweak to enable SRP, but since they changed the registry keys placements, I won't recommend it unless they left that part untouched.
