just removed ESET NOD32 Antivirus 7 I think webroot is more than enough and better than nod32 and it has a firewall

Some of these are paid programs hmms. But I heard the reviews not bad.

 

I try to make my laptop as light as possible...

System is Windows 7, 64 Bit SP1. UAC Off (Don't like to be prompt for everything I changed since I am Admin) and Behind Router...

Real-time:
- Qihoo360 Antivirus (5 Multiple Engines, Chinese Ed.) -> Which is Qihoo360 IS English Ed.
- Qihoo360 Weishi (PC Manager, Chinese Ed.) + HIPS features
- Tencent PC Manager
- Windows 7 FW (Used PrivateFW, Comodo FW , ZA FW and OA FW, they seems to lag and freeze my laptop.... don't know why)

On demand:

Yeah they are not free but can't go wrong with AppGuard I personally installed NoVirusThanks Exe Radar Pro along side AppGuard because I had to drop Sandboxie due to some problems with the beta version on my Windows 8.1 system.

Do you really need AG and NVT ERP if you use OA and it has very good HIPS?

 

As I continue my security setup escapades, I am duly impressed with both Binisoft's Windows Firewall Control and super impressed with Shadow Defender.

So far I've tested it with installing some older games that I know run on my computer but I don't want to commit to them just yet; they installed and ran and once I rebooted... it was gone, like a dream (albeit a good one though). And Windows Firewall Control 4 (last one I used was 3) behaves just like any old firewall type program instead of a blatant frontend for whatever it was designed for. Gotta give the devs behind Windows Firewall Control for tightening the heck out of it.

Anyways, that's how my current setup is going so far. Here's hoping for a lasting one (at least I'm not finding myself bored with the way it's set up) and again I thank you guys for some of the tips and stuff ya'll have posted during my time of lurking. I know I should come out and talk more but I guess some of my introverted tendencies show up on internet forums as well...

HIPS is disabled in OA for the time being because I am using it mainly for its Firewall at the moment.

The firewall control can works with current Win 7 FW? Does it do the same thing or adds additional feature to current Win7 FW? Can they both on at the same time?

 

Sorry for the confusion... it's still a front-end for the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security that's built into Windows Vista/7/8/8.1. What I meant is that the front-end as of 4.0 is a lot more polished and more well rounded than previous versions. I love the way it's laid out and I have no issues when prompts come up and I have to either allow or block them.

So don't worry about it being a completely separate program, it's still the same front-end we all know and love.

Trying out Windows 8.1 and, you know, I'm not entirely hating it. The first install was a mess though. Blue screens and failing to boot. Re-installed Windows and aside from one hang, so far so good. I think a setting in my bios may have fixed the failing to boot and maybe the blue screens, not sure. I got applocker setup and I'm not entirely sure it's working correctly. It seems that in Win 8, with default deny to standard accounts in user space, launching any program in user space displays a UAC prompt. Is this how it's supposed to work?

 

Wow, it's been a long time since I hadn't looked at this thread. Most realtime AV's are gone, which is a good thing I think.

 

After a few days trying one of the best AVs had to remove it, light but not light enough.

AFAIK you can only configure the rules, but you can't enforce it. Unless they give you the full version of AppLocker in 8.1.

With default-deny you meant SRP/AppLocker? Well, with the default settings that's true if you're on LUA. It's been like that since Vista I believe.
