After trying https://www.grc.com/dns/dns.htm and spotting other DNS leaks, it put a question mark on my DNS servers which I currently use. So which DNS servers do Wilders use & trust ?
OpenDNS! Make sure you make the DNS changes to your router (login as admin) in order to override any DNS settings in your OS. This will make sure that your ISP does not log any of your DNS requests. -- Tom
I use OpenDNS and like it a lot. Here is an old poll: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=328680 Regards, hqsec
Norton ConnectSafe for computers, FoolDNS for mobile devices. I don't base my judgement on the GRC test.
This is an old article but.... "Other than to its employees, contractors and affiliated organizations, as described above, OpenDNS discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only when required to do so by law, court order, or when OpenDNS believes in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the property or rights of OpenDNS, third parties or the public at large." http://paranoia.dubfire.net/2007/06/parsing-privacy-policies-is-opendns.html
OpenDNS does not hide the fact that they log data, they even present it to you and allow you to purge it if you're logged in. I'm not sure what your post is getting at. The dnscrypt website lists exactly which services don't keep logs: http://dnscrypt.org/
If you're not signed into account and have dynamic IP those logs by itself mean nothing. Regards, hqsec
I used opendns for years but for the past year I have been using norton connectsafe and I really like it
Great question. Also is it necessary or advantageous to change DNS for your VPN? My VPN uses OpenDNS supposedly. What if OpenDNS is not a speedier server? What happens if both your adapters (ISP and VPN) are set for 3rd party DNS servers -- does that double or slow your DNS translation time?
Some DNS servers are slow and/or unreliable. But OpenDNS should be fine. It's best to use different DNS servers for your ISP and VPN connections. For the ISP connection, I recommend one from the Wikileaks list. The Chaos Computer Club one is fast and reliable. For the VPN connection, it's generally best to use whatever's provided, if it's a private address (like 10.x.y.z). Otherwise, just use another from the Wikileaks list.
FoolDNS - it is fast, blocks ADs, tracking requests, malware and phishing, what more could I ask of it? I used OpenDNS and NortonDNS before including their family versions, but there were some problems.
