Whether I create a script in HDM (scheduled) or the Retention Wizard this happens:
    * An entry is displayed in HDM, tab Schedule, paragraph Scheduled Tasks
    * An entry is displayed in Windows Task Scheduler where:
    - Tab General displays “Configured for” 'Windows Server 2003, Windows XP or Windows 2000'
    - Tab Settings, the check box “Run task as soon as possible after a scheduled start is missed” is not accessible.

If I change “Configured for” to 'Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2', the check box in the Settings tab is accessible, but now the entry in HDM Schedule tab disappears. Should it be like this?

Obviously I want the script to run later on if the computer is turned off at the scheduled time. If the TS “Run as soon...” option is checked, the script starts approximately 10 minutes after the boot, but I should like to have the scheduled task listed in HDM.

Is there any option in HDM to automatically run the postponed task?

Technical support has confirmed that there is nothing wrong with my installation, the described behavior is “by design”. A Paragon scheduled task cannot be automatically started at next boot if the computer was turned off at the scheduled time.

The reason is: “As long as a lot of our customers are still using XP we keep the XP mode in the Windows Task Scheduler.” The "Run delayed ..." option is only available in Win7 and Win8. I answered that XP's lifcycle is ending at April 8th 2014 and I asked for support to customers with newer versions of Windows.

Then my ticket was closed with the comment that a technician could not help me more. I have given this feedback: “I understand this is not a technical issue, but a company policy case. I think all departments should work together to represent Paragon Software GmbH.”

MS has stated that 30% of Windows users are still using XP, around 3% W8.1 and around 6% using W8.

Yes, that might be true. If so, 70% do NOT use XP. The majority use Windows 7, have a look: http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_os.asp

And I have read that Chinese authorities have asked Microsoft to continue with their support of XP. Do you think MS is going to listen?

In my view XP was a great OS, but I do not want to continue with the use of it after MS has stopped to update security issues.

I assume it is possible to have alternative schedule engines; if the user has XP, follow the XP rules, but if the user has W7, use the W7 configuration. Macrium Reflect handles all systems, if a scheduled task is missed, it is started as soon as possible. But MR has a process which is loaded into memory all the time...

I had purchased W7 Pro 64-bit just to get the XP Mode option which I might need. Good thing as I had about a half-dozen apps that wouldn't run under W7. My old XP laptop doesn't have the horse power to run W7. :(

Have you considered virtualizing your XP and run it on your Windows 7, if it is kept locally, it will run with great performance, and then you don't have to keep your old Windows XP laptop. There are plenty of free workstation free virtual apps. I.E. VMplayer, MS Virtual PC, or Even Oracle Virtual Box.

That's what XP Mode which only came with the W7 Pro 64-bit does. What's one going to do with a 750MHz machine these days??
