I am not going to be buying google glass. Unfortuntely there will be plenty of people who will. Assuming the camera is always on, how can I protect myself from google glass when walking on the street?

I was thinking something more of a jamming device. Are those legal?

    Or Guy Fawkes mask. :D

Seriously, matt, you're way too paranoid. I wonder if you are just joking or really wanted to ask. That's totally impossible. The only most sensible way I can think of is to have face surgery every week to avoid recognition. Or perhaps a portable camera jammer, but I'm not aware of the existence of such device.

    So they do actually exist?

    WOW!

But eh, you'll annoy people if you're using it in the public.

See the problem with Google Glass is that it might be on without you even knowing. It's almost as if someone approached you on a street with their cell phone camera right in your face. So Im curious if there will be any legal options to counter measure that. You know like if you come in closer than 15 feet your camera might malfuncion.

Avoid people wearing glasses. Alternatively get in their face about not wearing it.

It's not really that much more incognito than a sneaky phone or camera. I'd worry more about actual spy tools.

The only difference is that people will start wearing google glasses like regular sun glasses and you will never know whether they are recording or not.
For the phones, they would have to put it up to your face which becomes more obvious.

The real issue is that not to many years from now there will be few places you can go that are not covered by some sort of camera. Facial and gesture recognition will be standard on consumer appliances: TV, fridge, toaster, etc... Businesses and governments will want 100% camera coverage. People will become dependent on wearable cameras.

I have no problem with gov't controlling 100% of the city with a camera. I do however have a problem with regular folks having that power.

I will worry more about satellites if I was worried about my privacy. They can take the pictures of you, your house, your activities, intercept your communications, etc.

No, really. Top dogs do that to avoid recognition, although not as extreme as once in a week. For the sake of safety and simplicity, it's easier to just use contact lenses, wigs, and skin tanning/brightening. But they are only useful if you are a nobody. If you are on the same level as Mr. Snowden, they'll make it harder for you to hide. Again, privacy through obscurity.

You could get one of the masks that Johnny Knoxville wore in Bad Grandpa.

The best solution is to simply not use it. I can't think of any better solution.

No. But then, neither is the baseball bat ;)

If the range were short enough, detection would be difficult.

And you can build your own:
