My negative opinion of McAfee security software is not based on John McAfee's reputation, but on the software's poor performance.

 

That's the thing actually. John McAfee is more relieved than Intel that his name is no longer associated with this software

 

McAfee, the product, is as erratic and unpredictable as its name sake. Although John hasn't been affiliated with his creation for a few years, in view of his ongoing escapades, the re-branding is a good idea to further squash any perceived association.

 

For me it's both, so a name change is a step in the right direction. Now they need to improve the software.

 

They should concentrate on improving the software instead of some nonsense name changing.

 

Perhaps they will now that their name will be on it.

 

I do hope that Intel redesign the whole product now that it has their name on it. I did try mcafee beta and the version supplied by my isp on my laptop and it was very slow in anything it did.

may have brought on Intel's decision to move on from the McAfee name.

Last time I tried it (a free version from my ISP), not that long ago, it was really pitiful.

 

I've perceived this form of self-irony as rather refreshing and certainly appreciate it a lot more than these unrealistic 100% test results in combination with scaremongering in order to get people to buy a product, which is sometimes worse to have on your computer than actual malware.

 

Good Afternoon! Was given a Yearly License for McAfee Internet Security 2013..from my Bank. Curious I installed...and uninstalled within 48hrs never too use again. Painfully Slow and Sluggish...That's All Folks! Sincerely...Securon

Interesting...I used it occasionally the last 3-4 months and it seemed fair...lighter than KIS. Maybe Intel will help that.

I remember it almost trashing my computer and hijacking the homepage. People bring up their resources all the time, but screwing up is simply in the blood of some companies/vendors in every field and I suspect McAfee are one of them.

 

i may be the minority but imo the name intel security just does not do it for me. if they were going to re-brand a name as HUGE as mcafee (and yes i know mmost of us here know better but the general public does not and they KNOW mcafee, i can not even begin to list the amount of people that use mcafee because of name alone. doesnt matter what test results are because the general public do not follow (well the majority) test results and things like that. so imo they are starting from scratch when it comes to the name and no one who uses mcafee due to name will imo be happy with the change out. mcafee does need to improve and i hope it does and bring it back to its heyday but imo they will have a hurdle to overcome if they go the route of retail channel with the new name.

 

Yes, John obviously doesn't take himself too seriously. I can see how the people actually trying to sell the software wouldn't be happy about the video though LOL.

Presumably, intel won't let its brand name be associated with a lame product.

Maybe Kaspersky, Emsisoft, F-Secure... will have another legitimate competitor.

Agree with zfactor on new name.

 

McAfee was a well respected name for me back, way back. I think an overhaul, and not just the name change, is badly needed now.
