Yes, that was its primary purpose.

Mohamed, once we've set up the "Local Storage", does that need to be updated? If so, only with new installations/updates or when we create new Lines?

Someone, don't know if it was Mohamed or one of the AX64 people, stated that the Local Restore should be MANUALLY uninstalled, then you update the AX64 program to a new version, then you recreate the Local Restore again.

It was AXDev who advised it in response to a question from Mohamed when v1.0.4.19 was issued. In the advice he said that because there was a driver issue that should now be fixed install of the new version was recommended together with update of Local Recovery environment and the CD/ISO/USB recovery media.

Knowing when to do this has always been an issue and it appears that sometimes there is no need but at other times there is, and there is a feature request raised for there to be some indication in the main GUI as to when this should be done...but I suspect that with the RealCopy/AXTM merger this may have been put on a slow burner...hopefully it will be resurrected as I think it is required.

    HTH?

Did any one else receive a 0xc0000428 boot menu error, file apisetschema.dll, digital signature couldn't be verified, when using local restore with the latest beta version?
Going back to version 1120 solved the problem. Windows 7 64 bit.

Thanks, guys. I better store that info in one of the functioning memory partitions in my brain. :)

In FD-ISR, the boot up screen always made it clear how to access the boot to snaps. Where do I access the Local Recovery Environment in booting up?

It will be so obvious you will laugh at asking.

Ok, you need to "install" the Local Restore. That is done in the AX64 Gui. Click on "Create Recovery Media" and at the bottom you will see install local storage or however it is worded.

But you must understand, as Mohamed pointed out to me, that this is not a true "pre-boot". With FDISR, if you totally hosed Windows, you could still boot into your recovery snapshot via the pre-boot. With AX64, if I understand this correctly, if you totally hose Windows the pre-whatever-it-is option will not save you, you will need your recovery cd or usb.

Not entirely correct. When you're in the boot menu, you're not in Windows yet. You can still be saved. However, if you go screw up the boot store, then you're hosed. Or if your hard drive goes belly up (like mine did last weekend), you're hosed.

So here's the wisdom. ALWAYS do a boot disk or boot USB on the side. Do not just rely on just the local boot option. A cheap 1GB USB key is all you need which you can refresh everytime there's a new version. The local option is there for convenience and speed when it is available.

Hmmm...must be missing something. Ha! Just kidding. Sure does get one's attention!
    Installed and CD made.
Thanks for the clarity on this. I'll dig out a USB drive.

Question: Every time I Start or Restart, I'll get that option screen instead of using ESC or F1 or whatever, when needed? Sure would prefer it to show the option, but after a 3 to 5 second delay, have it resume normal bootup.

You can change that in MSCONFIG. That's just a Windows configuration.

The tool is called MSCONFIG. If you push the WinKey-R keys, you'll get "Run" box. Type "msconfig" and click OK.

On the window that comes up, select the "Boot" tab. You should see all the boot entries on your system and a "Timeout" value. Set it to how many seconds you want the screen to timeout and select the default boot (which is Windows).

Had a failed hot restore using latest beta (1.4.0.19) in Windows 8.1 (x64)

As usual, cold restore worked perfectly. Reported at AX64 web site.

    Cheers,

    David

Hey, hey, before you all go out celebrating... :)

Just started installing AX64 on my wife's laptop, and tried to save the initial snapshot to the external drive connected to my main computer. Didn't work. This is not an AX64 issue, but a Windows 7 ignorance issue (mine, not its.)

Situation: New Desktop, New Laptop. When setting up my Desktop, when the Windows 7 setup process asked me for a password, I didn't enter one as I don't want to have to log on, just want it to boot up. So I don't have a Windows password.

Did set up a Home Group, and created a password for that.

Can someone guide me on what to do so I can get AX64 running on the Laptop?

    Happy New Year?

I don't know what you're asking... It's not clear what is the problem you're describing.

Jeeeeeezzzzz, okay, I'm obviously the one who got started drinking too early. :argh:

Simply? put, the laptop, when AX64 was trying to access the external hard drive connected to the desktop (the I: drive), it was asked for the password for the network. But there IS NO password for the network. I tried leaving it blank, didn't work. Can't figure out how to give myself access to...my other self. :)
