Ok deleted some other software and decided to finally try a restore with my Paragon Drive Copy 12.
    Seemed to be working ok.
But now its frozen on what looks like a dos screen.
Last two lines on screen are

"Searching for Microsoft windows on hard disk 0
    Press any key to continue
    ---------"

Press a key any nothing more is happening for the last 30 minutes.

    What do I do?
Hit restart and try the paragon boot disk and another restore maybe from windows 8 restore?

    thanks

Ok this is what happened. Called Paragon support. They said to give it more time to restore. And then use boot disk to restore.
So waited 2 more hours and no change. So pressed the PC reset button.

Installed boot disk and rebooted. Good thing my system did not auto boot to the dvd drive.
Because windows started normal and looks like it completed the restore. So very happy with that.

But is this normal. When it says press any key to continue, that means hit the reset button if any key does not work.

Should I switch to Shadow Protect? PC mag had an article about that software being the gold standard in backup software.

This Paragon Drive copy 12 was a special offer I got a few months back but just started using it. It was free or a very low price from what I remember.
I really don't need a lot of options. Just something easy and reliable to make full backup images and maybe to clone a drive.
Used True Image for years on Win XP. That did way more than I ever needed.
But I read the newer versions had some problems.
I don't mind paying for something if its better. If I ever need to restore its well worth it to save any headaches.
I really don't need anymore options than this compact version of Paragon has. And do like that it is more simple to use than Acronis.
Just a little worried since I had this problem with Paragon.

Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

This forum has plenty of discussions of various other backup softwares. Did you check the other threads?

ShadowProtect is a nice product. But it's expensive. And if you are running Windows 8 with Secure Boot, ShadowProtect is still not fully compatible. (Yes there are easy work arounds, but for what it costs, IMO, it should just work!!)

I have owned Paragon at various times in the past and never stayed with it. Just ran like molasses in January. I could never get past the speed issues. From what I read in their forum, they now have UI and QC problems. Not good to read!

My favorite image programs perform "cold" images. I boot from a CD and do the image outside of Windows. Never any conflicts (nothing else is running) and if you run the right one, it's fast!

My current favorites are free Clonezilla and paid Image for Linux. (But truthfully, I have a soft spot for Active@ Disk Image. It can run inside or outside of Windows. They just added full Windows 8 support (I'm testing soon.))

    Lots of choices!
