I doubt there's any patents involved. Seems like a pure technology acquisition to me. Sandboxie has little brand reputation/value in the enterprise sector. I would expect the technology to be incorporated into Invincea Freespace, with Sandboxie slowly disappearing over time. Sorry to see this happen, but that's business.

There is really little point in continued speculation. We will find out soon enough, as no company waits very long after a buyout to decide what to do with their acquisition. It really doesn't matter all that much to begin with. It was a specialized program targeted at a very small market, and in the grand scheme of things won't be a huge loss. Being under one man, users were lucky it lasted as long as it did and I'm sure more programs like it will come along.

In a forum where individuals fret over the number of seconds added to their boot times like it was an eternity, and either LOVE or HATE a program's new interface, a cornerstone security application like Sandboxie takes on quite a majestic existence, whether one thinks it is reasonable to do so or not.

Had your statement read, "It really doesn't shouldn't matter all that much" and "in the grand scheme of things won't shouldn't be a huge loss", then I would be more in agreement with you. But even then, computer security is for many Wilders members an all-consuming habit, and the threatened demise of one of our old friends can be tantamount to a huge loss, with a liberal dose of withdrawal sprinkled on top. ;)

That may be true, but it is the way things are around here.
OF COURSE none of this matters much "in the grand scheme of things".
But the Sandboxie sale is newsworthy, and fertile grounds for discussion.
As long as no one swallows a gun barrel, we'll be fine. ;)

Ronen's Sandboxie has been the brightest star of guarding my computer. Not as a privacy program as very much but as a program to keep my computer clean.

My Skype name resolvers are able to use what ever they please to cause me DDoS attacks and get my connection on limb. Just telling
    :(

Safest now is not to use Skype when posting anything on security forums etc.
At the the moment i don't trust this forum nor do I trust Sandboxie forum. And I have to tell this sucks.

Try the Comodo Internet Security sandbox. Their kiosk is fully virtualized. It does not have the configurability but it is still pretty secure.

I'll be using Sandboxie of course and will continue for the unforeseeable future too. It is my main security.

    Merry Christmas all.

I hope tzuk was, and there's no reason not to believe otherwise, that he was eloquently compensated to his complete satisfaction in turning over his legendary prize creation he guarded with his life every waking moment (and dreams too.lol) to the very end.

I can't think of another developer that truly deserves a super return on their laborous investment any more then tzuk, after all the tireless years of refining a total & solid LV package which lead to such an established and widely loved, trusted, and globally respected product on the order this one did.

    Nice long run indeed!

make sure you download and keep all the old sandboxie installers before Invincea turns it into bloatware.

That might not do any good, depending on what they do with the licensing server. Hopefully the statement that they are honoring license agreements, means they won't

if people are using the free version then licensing should not be an issue unless the free version is being scrapped of course.

Keep installers of versions 3.76, 4.06 and whatever latest version (inc. beta) released by Tzuk. Then give Invincea a chance and see how things unfold.

This is just a corporate take over of a small business, nothing more. The result of this acquisition will either be a barely maintained Sandboxie or dismantled completely and left to die. But the purpose of this is to remove any potential competition out of the way. An earlier post did mention that Invincea put out a browser in a virtual box in 2010. If they do maintain it, it will only be for a couple or few years so Invincea is completely associated with the name "Sandboxie", then the name will most likely be replaced with a new one.

Is this a sad for Sandboxie, maybe? But it's also a great opportunity for programmers to fill the gap. I've noticed that in the last seven years a lot of competition has dwindled. I don't know why but that only means that there's plenty of room for competition. Personally, I thought that Geswall worked much better but that competitor was neutralized years ago.

A very likely and plausible outcome.

A good application doesn't die just because development stops or the product gets sold. Any security application capable of standing on its own will continue to do so on the operating systems it was designed for. Some apps are timeless, working as well now as they did years ago. SandBoxie could prove to be one of those apps. Even when run as the free version, its main security features function. The only things lost by the user is the bells and whistles.

Besides keeping copies of the installers, now would be a good time to archive all of the additional info, tips, and configuration ideas from their site and forum, while it's still there.

If it is true that an application doesn't die because development stops, why is tzuk constantly turning out betas? What is he doing?
Why doesn't he release a build and "let it stand on its own"?

Since Sandboxie was developed for security, I wouldn't depend on the current version too long since it is in beta and especially if it becomes discontinued. If this were another app that doesn't deal with security, then yes I would continue to use it and even use older versions.

I believe that negotiations for selling Sanboxie was already in the works since late 2012. If you look at the copyright dates at the bottom of the website, you'll see the following:

"Sandboxie is Copyright © 2004-2012 by Ronen Tzur"

Interesting you mentioned that copyright ends with 2012.

Sandboxie version 3.76 was released on 12/16/2012

Sandboxie version 4 release was redesigned for compatibility of current and future versions
    of Windows in 2013

It seems some big major changes were happening to Sandboxie in 2013.

Invincea comments,"You’ve been running under the Invincea umbrella for SOME TIME NOW"...

Was it just coincidental that the Sandboxie licensing terms changed and not long after
Invincea and Tzuk announced acquisition of Sandboxie by Invincea?

    right you are.
it is a concern, especially in a program that was updated quite often.

it was quite a good program with Tzuk at the helm. but without him, i think it's time for as burial at see with full honour.

And still is a good program. If and when that changes, I ll let you know. But for now, myself as a full time SBIE user, I see no reason to bury the program.
