    Dearest Enonod,

Windows XP is an operating system so XP sp3 or 2 or 1 are part of Windows XP. These are all one operating system.

Whereas, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 are two operating systems not one. And, Windows 8.1 is not Windows 8 sp1.

I hope you appreciate the differences.

    Best regards,

    Mohamed

    Hi enonod

I think that you are being a little harsh here. The last time I looked at the AX64 site it had a disclaimer directly under the version identifier that indicated that it does not work with Win 8.1, and that a fix should be available shortly (I forget in what timescales it actually stated)...so I would have said exactly the same thing as Mohamed did...as neither of us (most likely) were aware that this has been removed (why I do not know).

Mohamed is an upstanding, extremely knowledgeable and helpful member of the Community here...and is not given, as far as I know, to providing bad guidance.

I believe that the link for the latest beta has been posted here recently. I am running it with no issue...albeit under Win7 64Bit. If you need clarification as to the Win8 compatibility may I suggest that you log a ticket on the www.ax64.com website asking just that (top left hand corner of the main web page...marked "Feedback & Support"). Isso usually responds pretty quickly.

We are all expecting a brand new version of AXTM very shortly which hopefully will consolidate the current beta, that work very well IMHO, confirm Win8.1 support, etc.

    So keeping listening.

    Gorau o ran

When it comes to betas different companies handle it differently. Most do not announce betas directly on the website. The may have a special page, or on their forum.

They do that as they don't provide the same level of support that they provide for released software.

    @Baldrick:
The web site has the following beneath the download button...
At the risk of upsetting people by continuing this, (which actually is pointless and will not change the facts), I still believe that an average person reading that and not knowing of course that it ever said anything different previously, should be forgiven for believing that whomever wrote the 8 knew that there was an 8.1 and that people would fall into two camps in their immediate interpretation.
The AX64 author does not wish to upset prospective customers and so should account for any risk in doing so.
It is apparently made worse by you stating that it did at one time differentiate but now does not. That to me is a deliberate choice taken by the author who originally deemed it necessary to differentiate, and all this with a predictable outcome. Me not knowing and falling into the trap.
[Edit]I could have said that someone should have re-checked the website before castigating me... but I didn't. :)

I did in fact contact isso and sent logs when I tried the newest beta and it constantly gives 'backup error 100000C code 1' no matter on which type of drive I used as the destination, NAS, internal or USB.
I have not yet achieved a single backup with this version.
I do not have Realcopy or Rollback or the old AX64 installed and I presume, the drivers involved were removed with the de-installation.
I have cooperated in providing logs for each test and after removing antivirus and stopping other background programs and there is no defragg.

Finally I have not denouced aladdin or anybody else or suggested that their advice was in any way wrong. Only that the suggestion that I (not previously involved in this software) was in someway stupid for not having read every post about some problem that I did not know existed (as all of you did).

I guess that should conclude the matter and I can await AX64 along with all of you. Meanwhile I'll have to try something else like the frightening Rollback that messes with the Boot sector.

Nadolig Llawen to all readers who celebrate it.:D

For some strange reason that was removed a couple of weeks back, with no explanation given.

And v.1120 is still there, which we all know doesn't work with 8.1. So why take the disclaimer away? No wonder there is confusion and consternation amongst some users.

Yes this is very odd. Why would they do this? I can't come up with a good reason.

Could it be that the developers (or the webmaster) overlooked it?
(I believe this should not happen for such a critical system app, but someone famous said "to err is human.")

On the other hand, the way I see it from the latest postings, this "beta" software :) is really start attracting people (who weren't here when this thread was still below 100 pages).
So it's up to the team now, to be ready to handle these "AX64-newbies."
If the newcomers feel they are welcomed (I'm not referring to this forum & its members), receive proper information & guidance (officially), then this software will fly (isn't that what all software developers hope for?).

It's good to have all the "experts" here, but I think the official support channel has also to be manned & working (i.e. responding within an acceptable time frame).

Windows 8 (and 8.1) is here now, and all the users of newly-bought PC (both the newbies & the experts) will have the OS inside it. So AX64 team must be ready for these people, even if AX64 does not support the OS (yet).

No, it was there (the warning) and then it was removed. Hard to imagine why it would have been removed for sure.

Support seems to have slipped somewhat since the merger. Has anyone had any contact with Isso lately?

    Hi guys,

I'm sorry for disappearing again - too busy lately. We are done with all the tasks that we planned for the next release of AX64, and we are currently doing the final tests. So far everything looks good. You can try the beta from here:

    http://ax64.com/beta/SetupAXTM_1_4_0_18.exe

    Following is done:

    - Full support for Windows 8.1
    - Added a feature to create local restore environment (this will make Mohameds life easier, as he's apparently tired of posting EasyBCD instructions :) )
    - Fixed a number of bugs

No need to apologize, Isso, at least to the majority of us; we understand the pressure and time restraints that you are under.

    Thanks for the latest beta.

Isso - Installed the new beta version 1.4.0.18 over existing installation and everything went smoothly.
Created new recovery media and happy to say the new rescue CD seems to load much faster than previously and the wireless mouse now works, thank you.
Restoring from within Windows seem to be just as fast as the last version, does this mean that the new 100% bullet-proof but slower version hasn't been implemented yet?

    Dearest Isso,

Long time no see. Glad to hear that you have now made my life easier and that you have added a feature to create local restore. :)

You have now joined the club of the likes of Macrium Reflect. :)

    The Bad:
    1. Added the local restore through AX64 and it installed, but it doesn't boot on Windows 8.1
    2. Added the v1.4.0.18 through EasyBCD and it still doesn't boot on Windows 8.1
    3. Went back to v1.3.0.7 through EasyBCD and it works and it boots on Windows 8.1

    The Good:
    1. Adding the local restore through AX64, and it didn't mess up the beautiful Metro Boot Menu.
    2. Deleted the local restore through AX64, and it didn't mess up the beautiful Metro Boot Menu.

    Don't Know:
    1. Haven't made a Recovery Media on a USB flash drive and see if it boots in Windows 8.1
    2. I see the member Kapiti has made the Recovery Media and it works, but I don't know on which Windows.
    3. Will try later and report, unless someone reports in the meantime.

Isso, MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!

    Best regards,

    Mohamed

    Dear Isso,

Made a Recovery Media USB flash drive under Windows 8.1 and it didn't boot.

I will try the same on my other machine with Windows 8.1 and report.

    Best regards,

    Mohamed
