That's actually one thing I am very interested in knowing. Even a ballpark figure would be very appreciated...

Stikes me we got that consideration: use of an excellent product. WHen you buy a car, does the manufacturer owe you anything beyond delivering a driveable car. Do you really think if they end up selling the company they owe you any consideration. Not in the real world.

I agree with that as well. Tzuk has no say in what Invincea does with Sandboxie or their other products. He took their money, they are sending him on his way, the end. Users, as already stated, are owed absolutely nothing beyond continued use of the product for the remainder of the licensed period and assistance with issues regarding the operation of the product so long as said product is being supported officially by the company. If and when Sandboxie ceases to exist, users who are still operating either the latest and last versions or earlier, should be on their own.

If a large sum of capital was offered to acquire Sandboxie then investors
will be looking for a profitable return on their investment.

According to Invincea Sandboxie has a global deployment of hundreds of thousands of users
and over 1,000 firms trusting to secure its endpoints.

To me these numbers seem somewhat low when you factor in Sandboxie has been around
    since 2004.
Of course hundreds of thousands... are they talking low or high end of the number amount?

It doesn't seem that low to me, considering Sandboxie and programs like it have always been targeted at and/or used by a niche market. The majority of users stop once they have an antivirus and maybe a firewall in place. So I would say a few hundred thousand users is not too bad at all for a relatively short existence. I also have doubts that Tzuk was offered more than the very low end of a few million dollars. Though I am sure Tzuk was tickled pink with even that.

Sandboxie may have been acquired by a company that wishes to enter the marketplace with a similar tool, so it buys SBIE to kill the competition and cannibalize what remains. Lifetime license holders are subsequently offered the new baseline edition, and Sandboxie 4.07 (or 3.76 or whatever version you like) lives on as abandonware. To my thinking, this is the most likely scenario that will unfold in the months ahead.

Although, interesting to see where this goes, Sandboxie won't be the same without Tzuk.

And another thing, who on here, if put in Ronen's position wouldn't have done the same thing?

Hey, here's a few million dollars, you want it?

    I would.

Good luck Ronen and many thanks for your hard work.

We'll all survive just fine with or without SB.

    Oh yeah, that drink...........

I don't detect the slightest amount of animosity towards tzuk coming from anyone on this forum.
You're preaching to the choir, as they say.

Thank you Ronen for this great app. I really enjoy using it. :thumb:

I'm a little sad about us "losing" such a great developer but I'm really happy for you. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors. :)

The fact of the matter is this: Ronen has done so much to help so many people thru the years to protect them from so many baddies that, well, I don't even know how to express my appreciation or accolades to him. Ok, if you want to call me a "fanboy", I don't care, so be it, but my system is safer because of him. Thanks for the "good times" Ronen. I know that you no longer have any say over anything, but may I make a prayer to the software God: "Give Ronen's product continued life in one form or another and if not, let us all have learned from his knowledge".

2 ways to look at this.

    1. Negative:

Users lose a talented developer who brought Sandboxie to what it is today.

Support for end users might not be of the same standards Ronen Tzur has provided thus far.

Sandboxie develops into a product that no longer fits the needs and wants of its existing users.

    2. Positive:

As a one-man show, things could have gone worse compared to this acquisition.

    a) Dev decides to abandon the project;
    b) Dev could suffer from health issues or like any other mortals on planet Earth, angel of Death visits and say "time's up bro".

    - In either case, users are left with no form of official support whatsoever. At the very least, in this acquisition, the torch is handed over to another party.

Support, while not be of the same experience as with a one-man show, might be of reasonable standards with the new developers and/or support staff on-board. Give a man a chance and he might impress.

Sandboxie, hopefully with the bigger manpower and budget, might develop into a better product, increasing suitability across a wider spectrum of users.

Conclusion: Yes, no doubts the long-sailing ship is on shaky waters now but whether the crew survives the storm very much depends on whether the new captain is capable of leading and whether the crew members are willing to cooperate.

Nevertheless, what unfolds in the near future would be interesting.

I have somewhat similar feelings, but they are also tempered by the fact that for me, v4.0 was not as functional (or therefore useful) on my systems as previous versions and I was unsuccessful receiving requested help from tzuk. I understand why tzuk had to change the architecture to accommodate Windows 8. But, nonetheless, the resulting product was not as good for my purposes.

    You're talking 4.0 vs 3.7 ?

Well if Sandboxie's development does come to an end, longtime users may have to think outside of the box and seek a different approach :D :p

Thinking out loud.....Is it only me who wonders how it could have gone for Sandboxie if Tzuk would have started with a yearly license fee of I don't somewhere between 10-20 dollars?

Lifetime license is a lifetime license, and not a good business model. So if money played a role here, would anyone complain if he would have started with yearly licenses if it would mean that Sandboxie could have stayed with him.

I don't know how big the Sandboxie userbase is, but if I used a software that basically was one of a kind and more or less impossible to replace and the dev would change the license system to secure his income to keep it going then I wouldn't complain.

Assuming ronen holds a patent for sandboxie....does the patent rights also go under invincea.?

What im saying is.....is it just the sandboxie brand and logo which has been sold or is the entire patent rights gone as well...?

    Happy xmas to all.
