Sandboxie Acquired by Invincea

Some could, as long as they have a x86 CPU and normal Windows installed. Not ARM CPU though, which is the majority.

 

Does anyone know if Tzuk is still fixing things in sbie or is he done?

 

It seems like he's done, he's not removed spam from the Sandboxie forum but he could be busy with the transfer.

 

He's been posting answers to queries on the SBIE forum tonight and cleared the spam, so he's not done quite yet. I think personally we'll get 4.08 final before he goes, hope so anyway.

I actually got really ~ Snipped as per TOS ~ when I caught sight of this thread a couple of days ago. Sandboxie was always the first thing I installed after a re-install or re-image.

Obviously, Tzuk has had enough. It's no longer a labor of love like it was, I'm sure, at one time. If it still was a labor of love he would never have sold it. Maybe he's looking to have a life now.

The inventive genius is moving on. Sandboxie will never be the same. Sad times.

Nope,it's a bad deal period.

Same thing happened to Geswall,excellent piece of software,then BOOM,it was gone.I make the switch to Sandboxie and what do you know,it's going downhill sooner then later.

Sandboxie fans can at least take comfort in that Invincea FreeSpace is a parallel product, and with a bulk of the seed money coming from Dell (already using Invincea technology in Dell's Protected Workspace) development should continue. Also as Invincea wants to branch out into mobile devices, perhaps this is where Sandboxie will find continued life.

This deal is a far cry from something like Google's acquisition of GreenBorder in 2007. GB was also a sandbox/safe space thingy that was to be incorporated into Chrome but sadly never was. Note also that there never was any statement that licenses would be honored/extended after the acquisition was finalized.

After developing Sandboxie since 2004 Tzuk announces in 2013 the licensing terms
have changed. A short time later Invincea announces the acquisition of Sandboxie.

Sandboxie version 4 from what I've read from other posts has some problems running on Windows 8 and/or 8.1 (?)

Invincea FreeSpace makes no mention that I'm aware of running on Windows 8.

Personally, I think there's a bright future ahead for this integration. There's lots of potential for a beefed up SBIE, with automatic exploit and behavioral detection, coupled with the usual isolation/sandboxing technology.

Pay attention to 1:49 , processes/filenames in particular.

 

This sounds like a viable outlook.
Ultimately it comes down to what a person wants to believe.
Skepticism can be based on historical fact, or even on resistance to change.
Optimism can be based on an informed study, or on blind faith.
It becomes a crap shoot.
But I like this poster's assessment. I should try the optimism route sometime.

 

I hope Tzuk is watching the reaction to this situation closely. I hope he makes sure his voice is heard, on behalf of the loyal Sandboxie users, especially about the licensing situation - I hope he ensures Invincea doesn't turn its back on the massive user contribution to his application. Whilst he quite naturally takes a huge recognition, its/Sandboxies success has also been off the back of much user/community input.

It's about time one of these security vendors actually stood by the users that have got them the big personal financial payoff. We, that bought a Sandboxie license, because of our trust in Tzuk, we deserve some consideration.

 

He sold the product, and is not being retained by the new owner. I doubt seriously that he will have any voice beyond what the new owner wants known publicly until his imminent departure.

 

Does anybody know how much sandboxie was sold for?

 

Kind of like reparations?
