The closest to sbie imo would be defensewall right or wrong? It has a sandbox doesn't it?

Sandbox programs are going to be coming out in the next few years. If you're worried that you'll need a replacement I can guarantee the wait won't be particularly long.

The closest to SBIE on-demand might as well be VirtualBox. I think JauntePE is similar, but it's inferior and long dead.

Unless Ilya does something about 64bit soon, Defensewall is going going gone.

DefenseWall is policy HIPS with limited virtualization, but it isn't an application sandbox like Sandboxie because it doesn't isolate all system changes made by untrusted applications within a virtual container. DefenseWall restricts the behaviour of untrusted applications and is closer to AppGuard in the way it works.

Wasn't there basically a refusal to support 64bit about a year ago or more recently? I am fairly sure it was stated that there was too much to deal with, it would lessen the security of the product and there would not even be an attempt. Even if the developer was willing, not having support for this length of time has all but killed the project. It reminds me of the ongoing issue with AdMuncher and HTTPS filtering. Eventually users just stop caring and move on.

There are ways to do it securely on 64bit. I think Ilya is just concentrating on other things more than defensewall. That would make more sense to me.

Hi ad, I suggest, lets wait and see what happens with SBIE after Tzuk leaves. As far as I am concerned, Sandboxie is alive and well. And it will continue that way.

That pretty well sums up my feelings Bo. Tzuk has been the ideal software developer so the 'sell-out' is unwelcomed news, but I'm not going to jump to any conclusions at this point. I will continue to use and appreciate SBIE until functional-circumstances (if any) change my mind.

Would it make sense for any of us to do otherwise?
Of course we want it to continue to function. I doubt that anyone is abandoning SBIE at this point in time. :)

Glad to hear you say that. I just always like to have an alternative just in case. Looking at the Invincea website it looks like they intend to continue developing Sandboxie. It will be exciting to see what they do with it. Maybe it will be even better with more developers.

I don't know of any that are out right now. But I know multiple people planning on writing them, and a few companies.

Actually if you read thru the pertinent thread or two a few, only a few, already have. But as long as the darn thing keeps working I say, "Why switch?" and to what? Of course I have reverted, like so many others, to an earlier version under control of Tzuk that had no problems. I reverted, again like so many others, BEFORE we even knew about the new company. Hmmmm.... I just hope the switch to a new company has nothing to do with the later problems after all, Tzuk ALWAYS fixed things.

    Okay, you are right.
I should have said, "I doubt that anyone is very many are abandoning SBIE at this point in time."

Brother page, I am taking the attitude that nothing is gonna change. But if things take an undesirable turn, then I ll see what I ll do. The only thing that I can tell you for sure is that I wont switch to using detection or signature tools. If SBIE is added or bundled with some kind of detection thing, I ll take it from there and see what it is and if I can live with it, I ll be OK.

I think that tzuk is already teaching the inner works of SandBoxie and providing the source code of SandBoxie to invencea programmers for a while now..

Might as well just face the facts, Sandboxie ... sooner or later ... will be part of a bloated suite.

Can't really see an internet security enthusiasts tool being bought up just to maintain the status quo. And that's what Sandboxie is, a niche standalone security tool.

I agree. However, there is always the possibility that he simply ran out of available time and/or money to continue. As for sandbox programs coming out in a few years, I believe that to be way too late. The go-to tools from the security giants no longer cut it.

If you're an independent developer with a highly regarded application like Sandboxie ... right now ... you'd sell. This is as good as it gets. I read all the time PC sales are in decline. Tablets and the like are the new boss.

I can see why Sandboxie has been sold.

Yup,I said this will be the case for lots of security software last year, especially the way the economy has been lately. Why this is such a surprise to anyone is beyond me.

I would think that tablets could use Sandboxie!
