No, avast! does use heuristics. However, some antiviruses create wast difference between levels. avast! heuristic levels are more subtle. Normal and High for example are quite similar, except that High is a bit more strict about crypters (executable crypters/packers, not ransomware stuff).

Rompin Hows your browsing with the new web shield? Some folks have reported slow down on youtube and downloading things.

Oh good. I'm kind of waiting till they settle all the bugs out. Having a tough time trying to pick either CIS or AIS. Both have their perks.

Thanks Rompin! That's the news I was hoping for. I've always liked avast and now that I have an AIS license I probably should use it. The web shield was one of the things that slowed me down a little.

Yep. Might as well use it. I have it paired with WSA IS (like yourself) and sandboxie.

Yeah the web shield is a little better but still lagging on certain websites. Oh well back to CIS.

I don't know for sure, but browsing speed hasn't been issue for me I suppose. Haven't really seen any slowdowns etc. I could be mistaken too (as I'm long time avast! user, maybe I'm used to "it").

    Anyways, great release! :)

Hey guys, I'm currently using their free AV (along with W7's FW) - I would appreciate getting your thoughts about upgrading to the any of their paid versions. :doubt:

I'm still with 9.0.2010 free version,if i check for program updates it says already up to date.I should update Avast manually by downloading the new version and install it or i should wait the automatic update?

I think you need to do clean install because you are on beta channel. 2011 is stable version.

    Tested Avast today.

Deepscreen detection have started. Deepscreen detected 10 malware in the test. But Deepscreen detection deletes the file. It should quarantine the file.

During test, some malware deleted Avast startup entry & after restart system Avast tray icon didn't appear but Avastsvc was running.

Latest malware packs by Spywar & Malwarecenter on Malwaretips were used. Total 181 + 136 = 317 malware.

Missed 40 Malware. Few samples didn't worked. PUP was enabled. 2 Active infection, Folders options was disabled.

Naren its too early to say about deepscreen detection capabilities.I tested it too and it worked well here too.Lets give them a week or so before we start making conclusions. :)

From the virus update history it seems like they are still working to get better on dyna gen and I saw some [Heur] getting added too so better wait for now then.So lets wait!
