No, according to the email NewEgg sent me the deals in the email only last until 12/09/2013. The price may raise after that date. I will edit my post to be clearer.

Apologies you mean 9 December 2013. I am in Europe and we would consider 12/09/2013 to be 12 September rather than 9 December.

In that case it makes sense to upgrade to the paid version. I'm not saying that people shouldn't use paid AV software, but unless there is some specific feature you require which is only available in a paid AV then I think free antivirus software is perfectly adequate.

Upgrading to the paid version of an AV is something worthwhile to do to support the developers, even if you don't need any of the extra features the paid version provides.

Also, I must add that over the last 9 years I have spent over $400 on security software. I have no problem at all with paying for security software, but, currently I don't see the need personally to use paid software. I'm running Baidu Antivirus, which does not have a paid version, and so far it has been extremely light, and I am very happy with it.

That's something I don't have the answer to, but I too would like to see the prices dropped for AV software. I buy a lot more software for my Android phones and tablets than for my PCs because it is so cheap.

Perhaps AV companies feel that if they significantly reduced prices, they wouldn't generate enough money from extra sales to increase profits. Certainly one factor in favour of AV companies charging the prices they do is that a lot of people are unaware of or don't have faith in free security solutions. Also, when someone goes to a store and buys a new computer, the sales person will no doubt tell them they need to purchase antivirus software. If the person doesn't know that much about computers, they will more than likely but what ever AV the salesperson tells them is "the best," and will quite happily pay to renew the subscription in a years time to keep their computer protected - without even checking free or cheaper options.

Edit: Sorry to be off topic, but I see the same situation with people needlessly buying new computers. Their current computer starts having problems or running slowly, so they think it's too old or broken, so they go off and buy a brand new PC, when more than likely there is nothing actually physically wrong with the computer and an experienced Windows user such as myself could diagnose and fix any software problems the machine has, add more RAM if the computer has not got enough, and make the computer run almost as well as when it was brand new for a fraction of the cost of buying a new computer.

It is a great deal and after buying Eset at $4.99, I couldn't be happier. Haven't paid in years (used to do Norton and others) but Eset NOD32 runs very happily, with low resource use on my aging Dell laptop with 2Gigs of RAM. Like the settings and it works well with MalwareBytesPro and my Outpost firewall, so a keeper. If they continue with reasonable reviews and they offer another Black Friday special next year, I'll go for it again.

Much thanks for the news about the sale.

WSA is available downloadable - physically shipped. Can I buy from New-egg from Sydney Australia?

yup, I wish I hadn't heard of it either, but this Dell D-420 is not exactly state-of-the-art. <shrug>

Runs like a champ with Eset and I was afraid it would not. Lucky.

Just stick with free security software like I do and then you don't have to worry about not being able to get discounts outside the US :cautious:

Good grief, there are plenty of UK sites (also serving the EU) where you can pick up discounted security software (download or boxed), most of the year!
