FWIW, two interesting bits from the Firefox 26 for developers page...

IndexedDB, by itself, doesn't support cross-origin access does it?

To enable independent pieces of code (e.g. running in different browsing contexts) to communicate directly, authors can use channel messaging... http://dev.w3.org/html5/postmsg/#channel-messaging

I got it off Majorgeeks and it said Final. In "About Firefox" shows 26.0. That is all I know!

the latest on the mozilla site is 26.0b10 dated dec 3rd. - a beta

just because someone posted it on major geeks as a release or 'final' doesn't make it so. not everything you see in print is true. caveat emptor.

the release will likely be along shortly tho. it may even be very close to the beta he posted. there is a 26.0b10candidate being considered.

...but the download defaulted to Mozilla and the file property was v26.0!

The b10 was posted on their FTP on the 3rd. The final candidate was posted on the 5th. This is not the b10. If it were beta it should say you were on the "beta channel" on the help/about Firefox dialog.

Unless there are updates to some addons very shortly this version breaks 3rd party addons such as Download Manager Tweak and Download Statusbar. They do not show download progress.

try the official release site*: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/?icn=tabz

the ftp site release folder for 26.0 links to a page that says they are not quite ready yet.

    * - if you are running a newer beta or nightly this will say you are running the latest as it checks for a build no. greater than 25.0.1

the nightly has rolled over to 29.0a1 on todays build so the actual release of 26 is in progress and should be officially availoable any time now.

just not thias second as i type or before.

as far as broken addons just wait until australis hits the fan....(tho the third part developers are pretty much on top of it)

Then why do the file properties, directly from Mozilla, show 26.0 setup? The only way anything gets added to Majorgeeks is if the app developer makes it available to them. It's not a "someone posted" situation at all.

v26 is coming through the internal updater now. No problems with my extensions. From the release notes (linked above) it seems like the changes for v26 are all under the hood.

Not mentioned in the release notes, v26 also revokes the French certificate from ANSSI:

Thanks, this might be of interest as well:
"There is no longer a prompt when websites use appcache"
Can appcache also be used as some sort of tracking like html5 cookies?

at best it's an 'advanced' copy from an insider who likes to beat the system. it's not an official release until mozzila says it is on their website. it might be the exact same code, but until it's official you can't say it's the release. the release candidate code looks like the real thing. it may be in most cases. it ain't until the fat lady sings.

    anyway, moot point now...

but on general principles, it's more secure to only download from known vendor sites. this IS a security forum after all. jumping the gun might make it go off in your face occasionally.

Maybe in general, but it is digitally signed by Mozilla. From a security standpoint I am not concerned. Everyone can do whatever they are comfortable with, obviously.

Sorry for belaboring the point, however, it's for your own edification, security aside.
"at best it's an 'advanced' copy from an insider who likes to beat the system." That is not how the freeware sites operate. Mozilla (officially) provides Majorgeeks with the files. In return, Moz is getting a free venue in an attempt to increase their market share and also providing Firefox users a heads up that a new version will be available shortly for those who just want to wait. The betas are always available there too.

Thanks for pointing that out. I'm weak on this subject but I'm going with a default assumption of yes. Here is some info on the application cache:

    https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/HTML/Using_the_application_cache

It appears to me that something cached could contain a unique identifier which would stick with the user until the manifest changes or something else happens to cause the related application cache stored item(s) to be removed.

I believe these prefs are related to the mechanism and prompting...
    browser.cache.offline.enable
    browser.offline-apps.notify
    offline-apps.allow_by_default <-- what changed

I believe these UI items and prefs are related to the removal of offline cached items...

Tools->Options->Privacy->Clear history when Firefox closes->Settings->Offline Website Data
Tools->Options->Advanced->Offline Web Content and User Data
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.offlineApps
    privacy.cpd.offlineApps

In about:permissions there is a "Maintain Offline Storage" preference that can be set for specific sites and "All Sites".

I believe about:cache can be used to see some information about cached items. I'm assuming it would also show items stored in the offline cache but I'm not sure.

I believe these bug reports relate to what you mentioned and we're talking about now...

    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=892488
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=933993

Here is a demo that utilizes the offline cache:

    https://developer.mozilla.org/media...mozillaorg-achi_1334270447_demo_package/todo/

I've started to modify my config file to deal with this and the other changes I previously mentioned, but it won't be until I actually update to 26 that I'll go over things more carefully.

Firefox 26.0 broke my extension Download Status Bar. Even its icon disappeared when downloading stuff. With every update Fx removes stuff from about:config that were previously available and renders some extensions useless. Not looking forward to Australis and will probably make Pale Moon my default as Moonchild wrote that he won't apply Australis in PM.

Many sites like NeoWin & MajorGreeks host Beta software with pending release notes. This just drives traffic to these sites. Download from the software developer site ONLY if you want as-advertised. Voila.
