When I run the installer for HDM Pro v14 it starts as expected and says it is going to upgrade v12. Then later in the install I receive "Error 1316 A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file C:\Users....\Paragon-277-PRE_WinInstallSNx64_10.1.21.136_000.msi" (I've excluded the complete path in my

I've checked the drive using chkdsk. I've looked at the location in the message. There is not an obvious error / issue. It is not being installed from a network drive. It is being installed from and to the primary C: drive.

At the end of the install there is a checkbox to view the installation log but I am unable to check the checkbox.

    Any ideas? Thanks! - KEM

Thanks! It worked fine after uninstalling v12 first.

Really appreciate the help. - KEM

I had exactly the same prolem installing PM 14 Pro. It took me a lot of hunting (using Google) to find the cause.
It has to be one of the least helpful error messages going.
I do not recall any mention in the documentation that you had to uninstall the previous version first.
Surely one, or more, of the following needs to be done:
    1) Allow a newer version to install over an older version - even if a reboot is needed.
    2) Include in BOLD type in some installation text - or at least in a window that pops up at the start of the install - that the previous version must be uninstalled first.
    3) Presumably it may be trying to uninstall, but not finding the correct file? Surely if would be possible to check for this file before trying the uninstall.
    4) Catch the error and put out a more helpful message

    Thanks Robin.
Yes, that does indeed give a solution to the problem.
The point I am making though (and is also made in the thread pointed to by fireworker) is that such a condition (basically file not found) is very foreseeable and could either be intercepted and bypassed, or a rather less opaque error message displayed. Failing either of those, then some easy to find documentation telling users to uninstall earlier versions first.
