    And the deal continues.
VIPRE, joining Norton, is now out of stock.
    All others still available.
I have ESET and Webroot on hand to try out in 2014 when my present AV subscription runs out.

My guess is that an installer file will always be available, beethoven.
The shelf life of the key is the hard part.
I wouldn't want to rely on it going past two years, but that is just a personal opinion. It could be indefinitely, for all I know. :)

using word "understand" was way to avoid such harsh words like "stupid" etc., it was not about understanding or not :D. The thing is- this industry changed in big way and free antivirus is not a loosing endeavour as lots of folks think here - it's platform to attract advertisers and to sell other products - best example of this is Qihoo. Read about it and think. Happy thanksgiving.

I already have many licences, should I buy further licences? I like to invest in AV licences instead of Gold! :D :shifty:

The deal that was supposed to end 2 or 3 days ago is still happening, except for Norton, ThreatTrack and now ESET.

Forgive me, but I see that ESET is now available once again.
Earlier, as I noted above, they appeared to have sold out the limited quantities, as they had crossed out the $4.99 price and inserted $39.99.
But the $4.99 deal is back up there again.
I hope I didn't cause anyone a problem by reporting that they were sold out. :(

This should be the normal price for an AV, but I suspect that most of these companies behave more as a cartel... By all means I'm not implying any illegal activity with this statement.

And the great deal continues, but with ESET once again showing the $39.99 price instead of the $4.99.

Pretty much agree. These suites are just too expensive on the whole. The licencing for multiple computers can get really expensive, too. It is so rare for me to encounter virus problems that pressing the purchase button often just leaves me with a sinking feeling.

BTW, I bought the Kaspersky deal without checking first that I could indeed active the license code at a later date and still enjoy a full years worth of paid protection. Did anyone else contact Kaspersky about this? I emailed them but haven't heard back yet.

I have no problem with paying full price for an AV, but I just don't see the point in paying for an antivirus - not even for $4.99 - when there are excellent free antiviruses. It just seems like a waste of money to me.

Well, as far as Avira is concerned at the moment (it might change next year), Avira free doesn't get any additional analyses from the new cloud services available to the paid version, therefore paying for the suite can make a difference.

I agree with you that with a layered defense just about any free AV is good enough, on the other hand if everybody went for the free versions, they would sooner or later disappear from the market for lack of income. My comment about the cartel business stems from the fact that all companies charge nominally anything between 30-40 dollars or more.

My question is how do they work out this amount? My guess is that in the western world 30-40 dollars represents the maximum affordable price that people are prepared to pay for an AV yearly. But given the fact that there are billions of users out there, how come there aren't prices such as 5-10- 15 dollars? The large number of paying users would offset the difference in price giving a company an enormous popularity. So why is it not happening?

I remember some people used to purchase F-Secure by paying in Indian Rupees instead of the US dollar, or something like that, because when the conversion was made the final price was much lower. I think one reason that some antivirus companies are starting to offer regional keys is because of the price differences per region.
