    Hello Forum,
I've been using Drweb since 2004 and never had a virus or anything bad.I don't understand why more people don't use it.Am I missing something,I would like to know what are yours reasons not to use Drweb. Have I been lucky, or is it a good security program.

Dr. Web is a wonderful security program. I first found out about it years ago when I was using Trustport. One of its three engines was Dr. Web, and it was that program that was catching most of the bad stuff on my computer. (I think the other two were AVG, and I'm not sure what else.) Dr. Web was particularly adept at catching script viruses in temporary files. Anyway, after my subscription to Trustport expired I checked out Dr. Web, and it was really effective. I have not tried out version 9, but I'm sure it's excellent. The price keeps a lot of people from trying it. But it is a solid AV.

Thanks for the reply, I pay £17 for Drweb security space after my yearly discount.I think that is a great price.

Initial price for Dr Web standalone Antivirus is £26; for the Security Space, £29. IMHO, too expensive for Home use, particularly with the quality of the Free AV versions available and the fact that many vendors products can be obtained much cheaper on Ebay/Amazon.

8-10 years ago it stood out (and F-Prot) as the AV to choose for old computers because of the lightness of SpiderGuard in real-time (its smart scan). Nowadays there are a number of other scanners who IME are as light as DW; Eset, Avira, Norton,WSA. And the on-demand scan speed is very slow (thorough but slow).

Plus support for non-Russian users has always been patchy.

So since it is expensive, no longer "the Lightest" AV in real-time, has patchy support and no longer tested at the main AV testing sites, means that there are now much better choices.

Although I was pleasantly surprised by trying out the new version 9; stable, and light as a feather.

There used to be a little group of users in the past here who were users of the good Doctor; Technodrome, Bellgamin, shorty1, Bob, Firefighter, fredra, TAG97, Mongol; not many left here now or they have moved to another vendor.

Bring the prices down, return to being tested again and then there may be more users.

In the Russian segment now has a new wave of viruses - coders files. Doctor Web is the only one vendor that provides a utility to decrypt files. But only to their users.

most of them are not even active or at list have not been posting much in the last year

i used to like Doctor too but it came on my less appreciated vendors as it it was so slow and not so light . I switched from it two years ago and never came back. I have been watching it time to time but it is not really the same as some others are.
It made no sense when they pulled it out of tests when big guys still keep being tested and it. There are also free as good alternatives as Dr is so why pay for it ?

As far as I've seen, its database is strong against adware and ransomware if nothing else. A bit of an underrated product; no matter what test results might say at least they do know how to do research, look after their servers and not to get its files corrupted after a few weeks unlike some "detection monsters" I could mention.

Technologically a good product. However, too expensive for my tastes. The detection rate is average (IMO) but it is very good at cleaning up what it detects. I haven't given it a try in ages, because I really cannot afford it and am pretty satisfied with what I have currently (AVG).

USA still the best. But barely.
    Price.

I bought Emsisoft AM instead at a very discounted rate & am very satisfied.

On my Androids the last couple years I've been using Dr. Web Light exclusively.

If Dr. Web came out with a free pc version I would give it a hard look.

I would not play sophisms with Blackcat even if i really like to know what are the TECHNICAL criterias that are behind his statements...
Like Bidefender, the market has seen its slow evolution mostly based on RnD than massive marketing (some av tests are a part of this marketing).
The price is not a major criteria, as it is easy to find discount coupon codes.
And Free avs also means more privacy invasions and less support.
With Bitdefender, Kav, and Eset, Dr Web appears as one of the highly recommended av for the western world (USA/Canada/Europe).
Just a personal point of view among others...

FWIW, I haven't seen any AV that has a trial that is limited in any way during the last 5 years or so, so I would be surprised if Dr.Web would limit the trial in any way. I think it's a thing some vendors did in the past but no one does anymore that I know of :)

It looks like the price is the reason for not using Drweb. If all security programs were £1 would you change to Drweb. I know the antivirus is very good, but don't know how good is the firewall.

But isn't that too low you think?

"haha wow £1 if they have to give it away to attract customer then I won't bother it can't be that good"
Some people may look at it like that you know. ;)

That the price is set too high at the moment is obvious, but what level it should be at that's the question.

For me it's not only the price, but also the newly added "anti-pirate" feature it is a real turn-off for me, and I haven't pirated anyone or anything since the 90's so it wouldn't be a "problem" for me, it's just that it doesn't belong in an AV at all.

I found out it's not that expensive in my country, but I'm still not sure I should give it a try as there haven't been too many tests on it. I have been largely satisfied with AVG over the years, but I do think I'm starting to feel stagnation with using the same product all this while :D

With PC Tools gone I do want to play with a "backup" but dunno if I should bite the bullet. :)

Nope it's not just price but the lack of testing as far as I'm concerned.

I also think the lack of tests is the deal breaker for me, even if Dr Web had a free version, I wouldn't get near it. We all know that tests are not absolute evidence of the worthiness of a product but they do give an indication of the level of competitiveness and standards achieved over a certain span of time.
