And wut happens after two years? That may seem like along time to most but when you are very old it goes by fast.

In other words do you get it reinstated for two more years for the same price?

 

It runs out and you need to buy a new one, licenses you buy that's on sale like 70% off you're usually not able to "renew" so you would need to find another deal or buy at normal price once 2 years has past if you would like to continue to use it. But i'm pretty sure there will be new deals next year and the year after etc etc.....as Black Friday comes around every year.

 

I bought mine off ebay, and got 2 yrs for 3PC for slightly over $12. You might check ebay. I have not had problems with the AVs I bought there but once and then I got a refund.

I don't use Bitdefender, although I've read somewhere that like with Symantec by buying a license you should make sure that you are not agreeing for them to automatically renew the subscription. What happens is that you buy a discounted license and end up paying for the full amount with the auto-renewal.

be VERY careful about auto renewal. and if you buy today at 70% off you do not get the same price when you renew you would hen pay the full renewal price at that time. or do what i do i NEVER "renew" a product its way to much $$$ usually even with any kind of discount they offer. i simply look for a new special deal like this type and i buy a while before my lic expires so i have it ready for when the first will expire. i also always let them run till the last day unless ill be out of town or something then i might activate a few days early with the new key.

also normally ebay is okay as long as you are buying boxed products. do not buy from sellers just sending you a lic key. MANY of those are fraud / bad keys that they resell to tons of people before the av company blacklists the key and then the seller usually is already gone. also (and i do not mean to single them out here) but never buy "lic keys" from sellers in china. a while back i confirmed with symantec when we sold norton in our store locally that they are very often selling many people the same keys or those keys were bought with stolen card numbers or other things also and will usually be blacklisted soon.

Note that this only applies to buying direct from Bitdefender though. If you buy from a retailer, you get two advantages:

1) No auto-renewal!
2) The code doesn't start until you want to use it. You can sit on the code and use in 6 months, a year, etc.

Those Bitdefender '70% off' codes were supposed to be activation time-restricted, we were told (by Bitdefender). End of Jan. If you try and activate after end of Jan 2014, you can't use the code. Maybe they didn't implement that restriction, but we were told that was the case.

Anyone who has bought one seen a time-related activation restriction?

not at all always true. MANY retailers also set up auto renew. just like best buy they get people like this all the time. i know so many who had no idea they would be re-billed and they were. and also cleverbridge and another (forget who it was right now) have done this as well. i actually bought a av and was billed through cleverbridge and had to email them many times after realizing they set me up with it and i did not see anywhere when buying it it said auto renew. i make sure to check now to be 100% sure.

and it still goes for ebay you have to be careful now matter what av you buy if all you get is a lic key code.

 

I find it amazing how much these specials vary between going direct to Bitdefender and via a reseller. I also don't quite see how the Aussie reseller comes up with 70% off when the old price is $ 149.95 and the new price is $ 99.95 (for boxed sets) and downloads old: $79.95 to new $ 49.95.
Somehow the math is not quite there.

 

I still 12 keys from that ridiculous 9 cent sale about a year ago. I wonder if those still work.

I still have about 75 keys and tried one of them the other day in Bitdefender 2014 Internet Security and it worked. Still trying to unload them too.

 

There is a post on Raymondcc for BDTS 2014, free for a year. The catch,is it for Germany only. However if you use a German proxy or vpn it works on the English version.I assume this means the key activation. Who? Give me an example? It's not possible for retailers to auto-renew a security code after a year as a) they can't guarantee they'll have a code to sell you and b) they might not have a code for the new version. For example, Avira 2013 codes won't work with the 2014 edition, so there's no way you'd even dare auto-renew an Avira code. There are other examples.

Cleverbridge powers the ESET and other carts. They will auto-renew.

We're in the retail business, as you know, but I can't think of any retailer that auto-renews any security purchase.

 

an example?? as i said best buy does it all the time. i know someone who works there. they can do it with kaspersky and others. they are a huge retail company. they do not directly do it at store level for the next year but they set you up with your credit card to auto renew and it is billed as best buy. it also happens with nortons. i know specifically people who were billed for it and it said it was best buy norton or almost that description (i do not remember exactly to the letter but i saw the cc statement and it was 100% re- billed by them. unless they changed it in the last couple months then they can still do it. i am also in the retail business i have been for MANY (nearing 25 years) years i do not sell online currently though.

avira 2013 codes do in fact now work with the new version. i am using my 2013 codes right now with 2014. i had 3 already activated which were now able to be used on a fresh install of 2014 and i also was able to activate a brand new one for it. and as far as i was told directly by them they will all be compatible if not already very soon. im not sure if i can quote them directly here since it will usually be removed but i heard it right from the horse's mouth and a reputable one at that.
