Comodo against classic AV

Why are you using an AV? Comodo IS or even just the firewall and the sandbox of Comodo blocks every malware I've ever tested. It even blocks ransomware where a classic AV let it bypass and infect the system.

It doesn't matter if you use Avast!, BitDefender, Kaspersky or even Panda. All these programs won't have a detection rate of 100% all the time.

I just want to understand that

 

I've seen plenty of bypasses of Comodo on YouTube, VB100. Nothing is 100%.

 

I don't think there is a bypass when you set the sandbox to untrusted or fully virtualized. Even then.. the firewall should block any connection or at least alert you.

 

Sure, there are other programs you can set to block everything, too. What's the point?

When it comes down to detection: Comodo blocked every ransomware I've tested. I think that's the most dangerous kind of virus in the internet.

 

But won't get ransomware writers discouraged anyway if no one pays the ransom?

i didn't like the UI change from 5 to 6
it was easier and more understandable

i liked the version 5 more than 6
even that version 6 is more powerful

Because most users don't have the knowledge to babysit a HIPS, or the time and/or inclination to learn how. And you know what... I basically agree with them.

Take a car for example. It's a tool that makes certain tasks faster and more convenient. Knowledge of how it works is helpful when it breaks, but you don't have to know all the gory details in order to drive it safely.

Why shouldn't the same apply to a computer? The computer's job is to help people get stuff done. For the 99+% of people who aren't some variety of computer expert or enthusiast, anything that interferes with doing day-to-day work on a computer is more reason not to use the stupid thing.

This is why most people use Windows instead of Linux, and AV software instead of HIPS. Not because they're stupid, brainwashed, or uninformed; because they need to get work done, and don't have the time to deal with umpteen million new quirks and compatibility issues.

Until we have software that can handle most client-side exploits as conveniently as AVs can handle known malware, the desktop security situation is going to remain pretty bad for end users, I'm afraid.

 

I view HIPS as somewhat akin to door-to-door salespeople, telemarketers, most politicians - all a right old pain.

 

Because, in my computers anyway, CIS is a monster. It somehow didn't remember my whitelist. So building your own whitelist is almost pointless. I don't know why CIS hated me so much. As for the sandbox, it's pants. Probably the worst sandbox I've ever used. It won't work with MSI, no quick recovery, no auto wipe the sandbox after it's closed (although the last one isn't really important, more into the users' convenience). If I was using a dedicated sandbox software I'll go with Sandboxie or DefenseWall.

Actually, traditional AVs can cause similar problems as well. Remember MBAM incident?

You don't even have to use HIPS. The sandbox is as secure as the HIPS.

I wont use the AV portion because it bogs down computers IMHO I ised to use the firewall/BB/Hips until i dan into problems with older games running correctly even after being fully whitelisted. And the games ran great after comodo was removed.

 

Yes, Comodo must be the strongest ever CIS/FW but anyways it's not 100% protection - look at Matousec. And I know on some PCs it is rather heavy at least out of my current 3 PC it freezes 1 PC atm. And in comparison to other AVs it usually has more bugs and creates more problems. E.g. sometimes (fortunately it happens very rare) I cannot read USB disks - it happens from version 5.10. I never met this and other problems with other AV.

What attracts me in CIS is that it's highly configurable - you can make actually quite different configurations. And it has HIPS and Sandbox - without those I don't consider that PC is secure.
