I have a license for O&O Defrag Pro 15. I've installed it and am trying it against my current defrag, PerfectDisk Pro 11.

My question is: I know several of you on Wilders use O&O. What I wondered is why you prefer it to other defrags? This is not a trolling question. I'm sincere.

I've noticed that if I use zone filing, and run Complete Optimization, when I immediately analyze after the program will still say about 6% of the system is fragmented. I let the program defrag 5 times in a row for about 1 hour or better and each time the program said the same thing. The program seems like it is a well thought out piece of software. But it's slower than PD 11 (which is in turn a Model T compared to Puran's Ferrari!), and it actually added to my boot time.

I'm wondering if I'm missing something? Do you guys who use it use zone filing?

Looking forward to your advice and thoughts! Kyuzo.

I don't have O&O, and assuming you mean fragmented rather than defragmented, could it be that it doesn't defragment large files if the fragments are tens of mb in size? Or maybe that it sees shadow copies as being fragmented, doesn't defrag them, but does include them in the stats? Or maybe it's reporting fragmented free space?

Maybe it loads services that add to the boot time? Or perhaps it overrules Windows layout.ini so that the boot files aren't located contiguously?

Just some ideas for you to consider.

Thanks for pointing out the error, taotoo! I changed it to the correct wording.

O&O added approximately 12 seconds to my boot time (47 with Puran, 49 with PerfectDisk and 59 with O&O). I'm not necessarily blaming O&O. It was just an obvious effect I noticed after defragging with O&O. WiseCare Pro offers a boot timing feature with a pop-up. I just noticed the discrepancy.

I have seen a thread on here which mentions this zone filing oddity- after defragging the program shows more to defrag.

Perhaps I'll experiment a bit more. It may be that I need to let O&O sit a bit to get the files in order.
