By what term do you want "better" to mean?
If it's for detection, the KAV engine seems to edge the RAV engine overall.
If it's for performance, the RAV engine is faster than the KAV engine.

Are RAV updates still available? As you all probably know, RAV was bought out by MicroSoft and it is believed will be included in Longhorn when released in 2006. Is RAV still available to the general public?

    I mean by detection!

    Acadia:

You can still download it from some sites and updates are still available but you cannot register it and use it longer than 30 days. :'(

But if you get a serial number (  :D :D ), than you will need a key for activation which is imposible to get.

KAV is a much more comprehensive AV and is heavier on resources.

RAV is lighter on resources but doesn't offer the same level of protection.

The RAV engine is no longer being updated, but the signature DB is. I personally wouldn't use it because the engine has had an update in a while.

Take a look at www.av-comparatives.org look at the February results. I believe RAV is included in the comparison.

But RAV has a huge virus database (larger than KAV) and I read on wilderssecurity that it is really strong and powerful antivirus.

RAV is history. Microsoft bought the company a while ago and stopped selling RAV. Yes there are still updates available but most of the RAV staff already left the company and is now working for other av companies, eg. Kaspersky or H+BEDV. So why care about RAV anylonger?

They did? I thought most of the GeCAD staff were still there to provide input on the AV interface into the OS, and I suppose the actual MS AV now.
