I am running XP on a 32 bit system. I have 16 gig of ram. I just installed SoftPerfect Ramdisk. Can anyone tell me if there is a way to get past the 2 gig limit?

    Thanks

    Hi,

    # 1 - Install Hard disk
    # 2 - Format supplemental Hard Disk (or delete it's user content - empty drives are faster)
    # 3 - Move Swap/Page File
    # 4 - Configure Sandboxie to Ram Drive

I will leave step 1-2 to your imagination
Before you can move any - file system active content to the Ram Drive you must format it.
I use softperfect Ram Drive so it's very easy to do so. You must format it to NTFS for swap if it is to be bigger than 4 Gig

    Step 3 - Move Swap/Page File

    advanced system settings.png

    configure swap file.png

Step 4 - Configure Sandboxie to Ram Drive

    configure sbie to ramdrive.png

    I hope this helps...

    My boot.ini looks like this:

    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\windows="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /noguiboot

After /noguiboot I would then add the "/ PAE" as the instructions you reference suggest?

    EDIT
Also, is the space needed between the / and the P?

The slash means Execute Feature, PAE is the feature...

My ram still shows at 3.1 gig after adding the pae extension.

It does show Physical address Extension in the control panel but it had that before i added /PAE

    am i missing something?

    XP Pro sp3 32bit 8gig ram

Your system will never see more than 3,5 GB of RAM, since it's 32 bit. PAE only allows RamDisk driver to use wasted RAM beyond 3,5 GB. Here is link to Gavotte Ramdisk and instructions how to set it up: http://www.jensscheffler.de/using-gavotte-ramdisk-in-windows-7

OK, it seemed on the ram disk thread that a way to see if the PAE switch had worked was to launch system to see the RAM change after the boot.ini was edited.

    ie from 3.1gig to 4gig

Anyhow i have used buffalodisk which uses the extra ram that 32bit cant see and it seems to be ok.
Although it is seen as FAT32 in drive properties and cannot be formatted as NTFS.

Gavotte doesnt have a mention if it supports 32bit pae so chose the slower buffalodisk
