Grabbed both the update & also the new full setup file for the mega codec pack, best codec pack out there.

 

Shark codecs not better then K-lite ?

Although, I recommend to not installing codec packs. No intention of flaming, just simply saying about what I think is needed to say. Yes, I've installed codec packs in the past and screwed up the OS, so no FUD.

 

While everyone is entitled to their opinion, the software works for many without bricking anything. Whatever issue you may have had should be reported.

Anybody used K-Lite before they made codec packs? I did.

 

What's to be reported? Various codecs overwriting the built-in codecs that Microsoft has provided and installing unknown codecs from Uranus that you don't need messed up your OS?

Not really.

TheCatMan is referring to the Shark007 codec pack (which is very good, btw) and not a codec called Shark. You get a minimum of what's needed rather than an everything but the kitchen sink approach. You can find it here.

 

Think ill stick with shark codecs with 64bit addon.

Never even bothered to tweak or adjust the settings just hit recommended settings and all works fine, I use MPC-HC x64 and VLC player, both have hardware acceleration and decent features and very light. MPC being my most used player.

Does anyone know of a guide to tweak the settings to improve picture quality and HD quality or better performance ?

Or best to leave default settings as usual ?

 

Google MadVR guide. The MadVR is included with Klite standard -> mega, or you can download it separately. I don't know if it's included with Sharks.

I always use the Shark recommended settings and never have any problems. That's what I like about them, back in the Win 9.x days I used to pull my hair out with codecs.

i read they are the best codec for w7 64bit and i read the cccp are great too
is it true?

Thanks just what I was looking for !

I noticed Shark007 codecs website had dedicated movie players (htpc) with MadVR Support : http://shark007.net/tools.html

Will look into those settings, I have never ever bothered to tweak or adjust my settings but come to think about it once you got a good tweaked setup everything should look even more clearer and better !

 

I much prefer the Combined Community Codec Pack.

 

Keeping in mind your GPU and video settings are not to be trifled with.

If you are comfortable adjusting these settings, do so or ask your Graphics Card or PC Vendor for help.

 

codecsguide suggestions were just the basic video settings, if one finds issues with video playback then one can easily re-enable them. But yeah those MadVR settings look way involved.

Am content just to see how the IQ with just the few options disabled as codecguide article suggested.

I've never had any problems with K-Lite, and while I no longer have use for it due to using SMPlayer (which has native support for various different video formats) to play all my videos, it remains my favourite code pack.
