Believe me, they know we want it.

Hundreds of people make it perfectly clear each time they publish a new blog post.

Well I see on Opera Next 18 install it has Bookmark Importer. But it is greyed out. Why is Opera denying us Bookmarks?

Because they want us to use Speed Dial and Stash, for some obscure reason.

They must have an ulterior motive, I don't believe they're that stupid to remove bookmarks because they think Stash and SD are more hip.

Unless they really think SD and Stash are the hip thing to do because they actually believe that only old farts use more than half a dozen bookmarks, if at all. With everything now-a-days being dumbed down, sorry, designed for tablets, I can just believe that is the case.

Just a quick question... Does the Chromium-based Opera use the same security features as Google Chrome?

    Thanks!

Okay, I wasn't specific enough with my previous post. Since Opera uses Chromium I assume it also inherits features such as sandboxing and PPAPI. I have been trying to search info about this but found nothing (yet).

    Thanks for the responses.

^AFAIK those features are in fact present in the new Opera.

BTW, Opera 17 is a really good browser and I am using it occasionally now. Very fast and easy to use.

I find that I am liking the UI of Opera better. It looks nice in Win 8.1.

I don't know how much of Chrome/Chromiums vulnerabilities are in the engine, but when Chrome has a security update, Opera takes about a week before they release an update with the same engine version. It isn't that long, but still.

Isn't Opera using the Blink rendering engine yet?

Oh, OK cheers. I was sure that they claimed that it was using Blink now. I'm probably wrong about this & had misread it. Unless 'chromium 1599.101' is the fork that will become Blink or something.

Opera has used Blink since release, and continues to use Blink. The problem is, it uses the Chromium port of Blink. It is difficult to implement Blink without a framework, and thus most projects using Blink will end up to be Chromium ports/clones (which is an idea I do not like). See Google's FAQ on this:

Just got this today through the internal updater. By the way, with one tab open I see eight processes in the task manager. Why does Opera require eight processes?

Yeah, it drives me crazy. Unfortunately every tab and extension has its own process running, it is in all Chrome-based browsers.

OK, I have nine if I count the "crash reporter". Why are all of these processes necessary?

Because Chrome developers think it is better to have separate processes for each tab and/or extension. If one tab (web page) gets stuck you just close the tab and you don't need to restart the whole Opera like it was needed in Presto Opera.

I for one prefer the Presto process management (i.e. only one process) than this new (process per tab).

While the Presto Opera was very light on resources the new Opera takes ca 60-70% of CPU and 2 GB of RAM.

BTW, Opera 18 stable has been released today.

I think the title of this thread ought to be changed to "Opera 16+ discussion" or something :p

    Anyway, a few tips:

For those that don't know about it yet, an unfinished but functional notes extension:
    http://my.opera.com/hallvors/blog/2013/07/08/opera-notes-extension-2

    The quintessential RSS feed extension:
