yes, it is there. and i was planning to do as you recommended, because it sounds reasonable. but because corrine asked me to let them know if the issue persisted so that they could inform billp, i'm waiting for their reply.

You're welcome. I'm happy to stop by and would more frequently if time allowed. I hope all is well.

Edit Note: I see you replied while I had my reply partially completed and was outside with the dogs. ;) I'll leave my reply as is though & will contact Bill.

@imdb -- I'm sure you know how to create a desktop shortcut or pin to start menu/task bar, but for the benefit of completeness (in case another reader doesn't know), you can do the following:
    • Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\BillP Studios\WinPatrol
    • Right-click WinPatrol.exe and select "Create Shortcut", click "Yes" to place the shortcut on the Desktop.
    • As desired, right-click again and select "Pin to Start Menu" or "Pin to Task Bar".

In the meantime, I'll ask Bill about the options those options not being included in the installer.

    Bill replied:

I replied pointing out the difficulty that Overkill mentioned and also that you, imdb, have the uninstaller and link to the website, not to WinPatrol Explorer.

(Embarrassingly, I didn't even notice that WinPatrol Explorer is on the Start Menu, probably because I haven't had a need to look for it and likely would have gone directly to Program Files to launch it if needed.)

    Welcome back IMDB!
Sorry to hear you experienced a problem. What you describe isn't part of the plan so I appreciate you taking the time to post your experience.

I use a third party setup package but I've always had it setup four Start Menu shortcuts.
One should be to WinPatrol.exe, the small monitor component that typically starts when you boot up.
The 2nd is WinPatrolEx.exe which is the main tabbed interface which will trigger a UAC screen and is removed from memory when you close it.
The 3rd is a link to our help file which is in the form of a HTML page.
And lastly you should see a link to the Uninstall command which is the same found under Add/Remove programs.

I confess I did not verify the Start Menu additions because I hadn't changed anything and I haven't had any other reports of a problem. It doesn't help that by using Windows 8 I don't have a Start menu anymore or I would have noticed it.

Obviously, something must have changed in my install script or the program I use. I will check it out and since it wouldn't require a version change it may be something I can update on our download page. I will add this and other setup features to my test plan for any new builds.

    Thanks again,
    Bill

    dear mr pytlovany
thank you so very much for your lightning fast reply.
i have a great respect for the way you run your business. i know that you always take customer feedback into consideration. and that's what makes winpatrol what it is, one of (if not) the best, lightest and the most effective products in its category.
it's good to know that winpatrol is still on patrol as always and protecting us.
    best regards

In my Winpatrol start menu folder I only have: 1) Uninstall Winpatrol and 2) Winpatrol Help

It has been this way for many versions.

What settings did you have before adding the program to Start up?

With either "Always Allow Changes" or "Prevent Changes", there would be no alert. The allowed or prevented change would be recorded in "History" located on the Options tab.

Since I want to know about any and all changes as they occur, I have "Show All Alerts" checked along with the newly added "Suppress" option.

There is no Scotty alert with those settings. Were there any entries in the History log for the program added to startup? Click the Options tab, then click "View History".

WinPatrol works fine with an antivirus program. It runs on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8, including x64 versions.

how do you get winpatrol to stay maximised?.Everytime i open it ,it reverts back to half the size of my screen??.If i maximise or drag the edges to full screen its ok for that session but after reopening its half size again. Most annoying.o_O
