    Hi,

I would like to know which antivirus company below uses regional activation?

The reason I am asking this is sometimes I see cheaper keys sold by downloadcrew uk/us store than my region
    Mcafee
    Norton
    Trend Micro
    Eset
    Bitdefender
    Kaspersky*

*Kaspersky is conformed using regional activation.

    Please advise.

    Thanks.

I believe all of them except Kaspersky use global activation.

Eset also uses regional-limit activation. You must contact support team to activate the license in another country

Kind of off subject, but if you're a facebook user, Facebook Security is giving away Trend Micro's internet security suite for free. Every other suite they have (Kaspersky Pure, AVG, etc) is for 6 months, but this one has no stated time limit. Since you're looking for cheaper keys, that's a great way to get it REALLY cheap. I believe you have to "like" the page and it gives you the download link.

Trend Micro's Internet Security on Facebook is also a 6-month licence.

Yes, keys for Kaspersky are country specific. Different countries have a difference in keys algorithm, and they can only be used with the country specific installer. For example, keys purchased in Hong Kong will not be recognized by the US installer.

Norton keys are language-specific, not region-specific per se. So, the English version will work everywhere as long as you keep the language as English.

I actually don't want to use the AV I use without paying (even if a free version was available), as I want to give something back to the company for making a nice product.

Correct. The consumer AV desktop market is definitely shrinking fast. Not only has AVG pulled out of the consumer market here in the UK (the UK office is 100% SMB), but Bitdefender did the same earlier this month. Their UK consumer sales are handled directly by their Romanian HQ. AVG's by their Czech office.

Also, if you look at the forthcoming AVG 2014 range and the new features are incredibly limited - AVG is pushing their development in to their CloudCare product.

By moving to free consumer AV products, it's only going to accelerate the desktop consumer decline. I know plenty of users believe that free apps are developed to encourage people to move to the commercial version - and there's some truth in that - but if they are so good, as they are now, most people do not upgrade.

Some vendors don't deserve our money though (no intention of referring vendors mentioned here!).

No, they just closed their local stores in UK due to low sales. Still available internationally through headquarters and other branches.

    That's also true.
But I don't think anyone uses a product from a vendor they don't like(for whatever reason), and if they don't like it they surely won't pay for it. But if you do like it, then you're more likely going to think it's OK to pay for it too, even if a Free version is available. Weird post this :D

Sometimes it's not just about liking and disliking. A vendor sells an excellent product, second to none quality, and you need the features of the product itself. But the vendor's attitude is just pants. Your email asking for support has not been answered for over 2 months, renewing your license without asking for your approval first, charging you with twice the initial price you've paid for an upgrade, etc.

Problem is, you need the product and there's no alternative that is even as good as that product.

Then you come here to Wilders and ask a few questions, there's always someone here that will know the answer to this or that :D

Joking aside, yes I understand your point, and if one have paid for it then you surely have the right to get support in one way or the other. But this is how it is I guess, some vendors has an excellent product, but support sucks, while other vendors have a fantastic support team, but the product is half as good as the support provided. So then one has to think, "do I need support for this product, or can I find help through other channels then the official support?" if yes you can then maybe you could go for it anyway, but you know what to expect the day you need help with something serious that needs to go via the official support.

    Region restricted Anti Virus.

Coming towards the end of Kaspersky Internet Security and would like to know what other Anti Virus software is region restricted for purchase. I'm aware that Kaspersky is region restricted and suspect that Bitdender is also, but have no idea about the others.
