Antivirus Poll - 2013 (October - December)

AVG (paid) on all my machines. I think I'm going to stop testing other products altogether - I have been testing products on and off and AVG is the one whose license I have consistently renewed for the last seven or so years. I am, however, giving an eye to Lavasoft Ad-Aware and ZoneAlarm Antivirus, but both have not yet convinced me to switch.

I also have a license for eScan, a product I use on and off, for which I have a nostalgic curiosity. I used to use PC Tools Internet Security, but my business with Symantec has pretty much ended the day they decided to discontinue that range of products.

I'd suggest you to try WSA before stopping testing other products altogether. You would be impressed.

 

I would do the same. If a specific AV works for you for many years than I would not switch. Especially from a known and well regarded company such as AVG which is more than likely will continue to provide a good product.

 

I used to try lots of security software too but i have settled for EAM + OA since a few years ago.

 

Tried some and now using none. (what's in my signature)

Yes indeedy. There`s a lot of BitDefender`s there as well.

 

I voted for ESET.It has a clear interface and system impact is zero.its a smooth runner with no issues and simply works.

Runs light and it got good results in the latest VB tests. Actually some reviewers gave it a favourable review (if somewhat begrudgingly).

I'm using Ashampoo Anti-Virus right now, but will probably switch to Baidu soon.

 

Since 2004 I had Norton, Kaspersky, Eset, and now Avira. I’m still with Avira as it is light on my system, detection has always been excellent with/without internet connection, no FPs, and last but not least the price is right.

 

just noticed jmonge uses ashampoo av, too, and asked him how its real world performance was. he said he didn't have the chance to test it so far. what is your opinion of ashampoo av's real world performance. haven't seen much ashampoo user around the net.

 

On the whole it is very light. But there are spikes in CPU use when you launch a program. For example, when I launch Task Manager there is a spike in CPU use for a few seconds.

Edit: If you are referring to detection rate, I haven't tested that, but it should be excellent with the two engines, and it also has a basic HIPS component too.

do you know if it uses its own av engine and a third party engine (i see that you mention of two engines) or both are 3rd party engines?

 

I haven't checked, but I presume it will be the same when launching any program. As Task Manager is actually a program (taskmgr.exe) which is loaded whenever you open task manager.

Just the 3rd party engines.
