Hi jnthn, thank you for your info and the text files. This will definitely help us in our testing We may request more information from you if necessary. Please let me know how it goes when you give v2.0.20 another try this weekend Cheers, sinlam
hi Sinlam, could you please let us know, if this is compatible with windows 8.1. I am planning to upgrade my system from 8 once 8.1 is available in windows store. thanks, harsha
Hi harsha, SecureAPlus is compatible with Windows 8.1. There will not be any issue as long as SecureAPlus is installed on a brand new Windows 8.1. But if you wish to upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, it is advisable to first uninstall the existing SecureAPlus before upgrading. Once the OS is fully upgraded to Windows 8.1, you can then reinstall SecureAPlus again. If you need further clarification, please feel free to ask Cheers, sinlam
Thanks Sinlam! Good to know SecureAPlus is compatible with 8.1 and tip regarding uninstall before W8 upgrade. Now, i am wondering, if it is a good practice to remove all the 3rd party security before upgrading
Hi harsha, the best is to check with the support team of the respective security product that you have Cheers, sinlam
Hi jnthn, two more questions to help in our investigation: 1. Did you ever export the whitelist data? 2. Did you install SecureAPlus using the small installer (SecureAPlusSetup.exe) or the big installer (SecureAPlusNoAVSetup_v2.0.20.exe) Thanks Cheers, sinlam
Sinlam, Does SecureAPlus monitor the activities of rundll32.exe or regsvr32.exe? I noticed you have cmd.exe and dllhost.exe listed in Restricted Application. Any reason why those are not included? Thank you. . Later... Bob BTW, I like the new features in 2.0.20.
Hi guys, as mentioned in my post #453, if you wish to upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, it is highly recommended to uninstall SecureAPlus first. After the Windows OS update is completed, you can reinstall SecureAPlus again. If you need further clarification, please feel free to ask Cheers, sinlam
Hi Trespasser, thank you for liking the new features in v2.0.20 To avoid any adverse side effect, we will usually take tremendous effort and time to test the file before adding it to the default restricted application. We did not add rundll32.exe and regsvr32.exe to restricted application list because of their possible unwanted implication. Some installer may use rundll32.exe and regsvr32.exe in the installation and if they are added to the restricted application list, it may affect the installation process. Take run32dll.exe for example. One of its task is to execute arbitrary dll. A 64-bit installer can call 32-bit run32dll to execute a function call from 32-bit dll. This function call can do anything. It may create a new executable file which may be used by the installer later. If rundll32.exe is put into the restricted application list, all the executable file created by rundll32.exe will not be trusted and this will be a big issue for the installer. Hope this answers your query Cheers, sinlam
Hello, when the beta is released, can I upgrade SecureAPlus current version to beta without uninstalling it?
Hi kupo, yes, you can upgrade SecureAPlus current version to the next beta version without uninstalling it. Cheers, sinlam
Thanks for the info, and if I am currently using the version without AV and since you are planning to change the AV in the next version, will I be able to install the beta w/ AV even though I don't have the AV installed in the stable?
Hi Kupo, there shouldn't be any problem. We will provide the system requirements and other details for the testers when the beta program 1 is officially launched. Cheers, sinlam
found an issue with the whitelist component and virtualbox. virtualbox kept crashing, uninstalling SAV fixed the crashing. before uninstalling SAV i did put it into 'trust all' mode but it never helped. this suggests that even with SAV turned off, it still affects the computer in some way
Hi treehouse786, thank you for pointing out this problem to us To help us to solve this problem, kindly provide us with the following information: 1. What is your Windows OS? 2. Did this happen during or after initial whitelisting? 3. Did you install VirtualBox before installing SecureAPlus or during SecureAPlus initial whitelisting of your system or after the initial whitelisting? 4. Did you encounter any blue screen? If yes, can you please zip and send the "MEMORY.DMP" file located at C:\Windows\ to secureaplus@secureage.com? 5. Can you please also email the "fltmc.txt" and "service.txt" files to us? You can get these files by doing the following: - Run Command Prompt as administrator. - Type the following command: fltmc > c:\fltmc.txt sc query > c:\service.txt - Send c:\fltmc.txt and c:\service.txt to us. Hope to hear from you soon as this information is extremely helpful in diagnosing the problem. Cheers, sinlam
1- windows 8 64bit 2- after whitelisting 3- virtualbox has been on my system for a lot longer than SAV 4- no blue screens unfortunately i do not have any logs for SAV as i have fully uninstalled SAV. for what its worth, event log showed no indication that SAV was responsible for virtualbox crashing
Hi treehouse786, Thank you for your prompt reply. Although there is no indication in the event log that SecureAPlus was responsible for virtualbox crashing, we will still continue testing to ensure there is no compatibility issue between SecureAPlus and virtualbox. Hope that you will give SecureAPlus another try in future. Cheers, sinlam
I am having trouble with BSODs on windows 8.1 64 bit. I get a SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION saappctl.sys. Are there any known compatibility issues? Is anyone else having trouble with this? First off yes it is the newest version, I only installed it after upgrade to 8.1. I have removed the saappctl.sys from the windows/driver folder and was able to boot. My dmp file was pointing to crashdmp.sys. Edit:Added dmp - text file View attachment dmp.txt
I just done a test of securtyAplus plus av in vm and it FAILED big time. It failed because it did not stop a police scamware ransomware from locking the vm. I did some security tests todays and secureaplus was one of them. Infact 3 products in my test failed the police ransom scareware. Here is my personal xls of the test: hxxp://rapidshare.com/share/8F6FE8418E082E63150586BC43F2BC8E
Hi treehouse786, We are testing using the latest version, VirtualBox 4.3 but we are unable to reproduce the problem. What is the VirtualBox version that you are using? If you are using an older version of VirtualBox and you wish to give SecureAPlus another try, you may update to the VirtualBox to the latest version and see whether the same problem still occur. Hope to hear from you Cheers, sinlam
Hi taleblou, Good to see you again Thank you for letting us know about this We have tested on ransomware previously but SecureAPlus managed to block it. We are extremely concerned about this and would like to clarify the following: 1. Was the police scamware ransomware sample whitelisted? You can verify by right-clicking on the sample to check the trust level. 2. If the trust level is set to "Trusted Installer" or "Trusted Application", please set it to "Not Trusted". Then run the ransomware sample again. Please let me know the outcome I have also sent you a pm. Cheers, sinlam
Hi Jryder54, thank you for reporting this to us. We will investigate your problem and may request more information from you if necessary. Cheers, sinlam
1. nope. 2. did not touch it. Just after finishing installing secureaplus with av, afterwards I ran the malwares one by one to test and secureaplus blocked a few but then suddenly the canadian police scar-ware warning page filled and locked the vm with no pop-up of a warning from secureaplus. Had to reset the vm to get rid of it. I have responded to your pm.
You didn't have the malware on the VM sitting in a folder when you installed SecureAPlus? Otherwise, they would have been included on the whitelist after SAP install.
