take a look at this link. also pay attention to "discount policy" at the bottom of the page. it says: "The discount is 50% off the list price for an educational or non-profit organization and 30% off the list price for a health or government institution. Please apply for special discounts using by this form."

Looks pretty good for the most part, but I've got a couple of complaints. :)

The new Online Security module has a relatively huge icon that overlays text when viewing embedded links on some forums/pages (try reading posts on Slashdot, for example).

The addition of SafeZone in Avast Free is a big :thumb: but I can't find any way to configure it. I would like to add my tiny little bank's online transaction site, but Online Security doesn't detect or offer it. Is there some GUI option/config file I'm not aware of to allow adding sites to SafeZone in Avast Free, or some way to launch it by itself?

I've had a few people call me about Windows Security Center not detecting Avast after upgrading. Fortunately, it seems to go away after two or three reboots. I've also had a report of Avast's installer ignoring user input and installing Chrome anyway, even though the box was unchecked. Not good.

Final complaint : Avast's EVO:gen detections have been very aggressive for me lately. It has detected components of two very common programs, namely QuickBooks/WebEx remote access and an older version of Lenovo Rescue and Recovery, causing some major headaches. I submitted false positive reports, but Avast continues to detect the files and won't seem to let me exclude them, even after multiple attempts. I'd like a whitelisting option upon detection that actually works every time. Maybe this is fixed in Avast 2014?

Other than that, it's all good.

    So far.

    :D

I'm in the middle of doing a custom avast installation and I noticed that there's only four shields (File/Web/Mail/Antispam) now. What happened to the P2P/IM/Network/etc?

They were just merged with the others. No protection was dropped.

I always restart the system after security software installation whether the product asks or not so yes the system was restarted.

I do the test on my test system XP SP3 32 Bits real system i.e no VM. I have installed sysrestore (a snapshot restore software) & created a restore point. Any product I test, after completion I restore to the created snapshot. I always restore to the clean state before doing another test. And before test I also check the system with Comodo Cleaning Essentials (KillSwitch, Quick Repair & AutoRun Analyzer), HitmanPro & MBAM Quick Scan.

About DeepScreen - You should mention in the release notes if any technology/function is not working/fully working. It would be good to have DeepScreen specific thread in Avast forum & updated with its progress.

I don't know about the Free version, but in Internet Security you can open the main GUI > "tools" > "safezone" and add banking sites not automatically detected. There's also an option to open SafeZone automatically as you go to that specific URL.

They changed their marketing. That's all what those shields ever were.

I had to roll back to version 8, version 9 would not let me print to an Epson XP-600 printer.

Also no audio or pop-up prompts when updating or detecting malware.

    Hope it's fixed real soon...

How do you block websites (URL's) in version 9 free ?

SafeZone has been added to the free version? But it still says otherwise here http://www.avast.com/compare-antivirus :doubt:

Funny, its working for me. If you click on the Online Security icon in your browser, then open Settings, then click the SafeZone option, you'll get a prompt asking you to choose SafeZone when a recognized financial site comes up.

    http://i44.tinypic.com/2zexg14.png

Then if you visit a known financial site like chase.com, you get this:

    http://i44.tinypic.com/9sb5gj.png

If you click the button, SafeZone opens with no browsers configured (I added Firefox). No screenie as I think SafeZone doesn't allow it.

This page also opens in my unsandboxed browser, which mentions SafeZone:

    http://www.avast.com/en-us/index

The configuration options are greyed out in the Avast Free gui and if clicked on, they lead to purchase offers for other Avast flavors.

So, it's there in Free, whether by oversight or on purpose. But it's not useful for some sites unless it is configurable. :)

    ETA: Finished last sentence

I don't think safezone would be added in the free version. It's one of the major selling points for the IS version.

Well, it is possible that it can only be activated for certain webpages, but not for everything, which you can do in paid versions. Similar to how Auto Sandbox worked before. It was the same as in paid, but user had no control on what runs inside it.

I experienced that same fluke back around the initial release of the the problem plagued v6. Somehow Safe Zone ended up in my free version upon program update but wasn't functional in any sense.

looks like the payment is made within the avast free av and then info is sent over the web for processing...so no web page link to post

Sandboxie website says that's one of the known issues. You can use the Avast sandbox for your browser.
