Sinlam, maybe it's better not to show in the GUI the AV entries when SAP is installed without AV?

I think you should add by default "dragon.exe" - Comodo Dragon to the Restricted Application list.
BTW maybe it's better to name the tab "Restricted Applications" - in plural form?

Hi Solarlynx, yes you are right :thumb: We will add "dragon.exe" to the Restricted Application list and changed the name of the tab to "Restricted Applications". Thanks again for the suggestion :) Hope there will be more coming :D

did an update to the new version (via built in updater) and it completely messed up the installation.

the program did not auto start after a reboot and it also managed to install the AV component even though i did not have the AV component installed before the update

Sadly, there's no 64-bit version of xyplorer as of yet. Thinking out loud, perhaps it is time to dump it already and search for a native 64 bit file manager other than windows explorer.

Anyhow back to SAP, I think I'll do an uninstall of ver 2.0.19 then install the latest as one user pointed out that installation gets borked if updated via internal updater. Another GUI enhancement suggestion is to be able to sort columns based on trust level, path or filename via clicking on column name (makes it easier to browse for trusted files in a folder with a lot of nested executables) and make the window resizable.

Another thing is that standard users can access the GUI via double clicking the tray icon but has zero management access. This is good, but why not just invoke UAC admin credentials when accessing the program via tray icon since admin rights is needed anyhow to access settings?

It will be more convenient for managing SAP.

Now SAP goes through all disks creating initial database. Why not to make an option to restrict it to the OS disk and users' space (usually C:\Users\... - but it's changeable - I keep it at disk D)?

Did an uninstall of .19 and rebooted. After reboot, installed .20 and noticed the service wasn't running and there was no tray icon. Tried to see if a reboot will fix it but no dice, after a reboot all Avast! shields are disabled o_O Went to check SAP program files directory and ran the executables as admin and got an error saying I don't have credentials.

Had to re-image after that which was a test in itself to see if Macrium Free can restore a linux/windows dual boot drive. The good news, Macrium restored perfectly; the bad news, I forgot to get SAP logs

Btw, I used the no-av installer for both .19 and .20 versions.

How good is the antivirus component? Does it integrate into Windows Security Center? I am using it for application whitelisting right now, but I'd consider using the AV too if it met those criteria.

    Thanks.

Hi pbeg7, it uses ClamAV for it's antivirus engine. You can make your own conclusions now :). It doesn't integrate into WinSecurity Center as it is supposed to be a supplemental scanner.

Hi treehouse786, sorry for the problem you are facing and thank you for your feedback :thumb: We will try our very best to help you resolve this problem. Before we can further investigate this issue, we need the following information from you:

    1. Which SecureAPlus version you have installed on your computer previously? Was it v2.0.19?

    2. What is the Windows OS of your computer?

    3. Which update method did you use? Was it auto update, notify update, or manual update?

    4. It will help us a lot if you can send us the log file. The files can be found at the following locations:

    For Windows Vista and above:
    C:\ProgramData\SecureAge Technology\SecureAge\log\

    For Windows XP:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SecureAge Technology\SecureAge\log\

Please zip the log folder and email to secureaplus@secureage.com.

Once we have received your log files, we will look into it right away and keep you posted on the outcome :)

    Cheers,
    sinlam

Hi jnthn, we really need to investigate further regarding the installation gets borked if updated via internal updater. I have done the update via the internal updater on my Windows 7 machine, it works perfectly fine. Really need more testing and will post the outcome once we are able to reproduce the problem.

Thank you so much on your GUI enhancement suggestion, especially the column sorting suggestion is great :thumb: This will definitely improve the browsing experience.

Hmm... I am not sure about invoking UAC admin credentials when accessing the program via tray icons... We will need to think more about this suggestion...

Do keep more suggestion coming :D

Hi pbeg7, yes Kelvin is right. If you are not comfortable with ClamAV protection, you can use SecureAPlus with the existing antivirus that you have.

If you are uncertain of how to configure the antivirus setting that will work best with SecureAPlus, please feel free to consult us :)

    Cheers,

    hi sinlam.

    1. it was the latest version available at the time, not sure which exact version it was

    2. windows 8 pro 64bit

    3. notify update

    4. unfortunately i removed all traces of the program and manually updated to the new version

i really like the concept of the whitelisting side of things. maybe it is worth separating the whitelisting component into a separate program then the problems i had of it auto adding an antivirus would be virtually impossible. it would also make the program more stable if there were 2 distinct separate programs. the users who want to install the current model of intertwined whitelisting and AV would not be affected

Hi sinlam I hope you can continue the scan when you exit the window because sometimes I would exit it and then forget that it doesn't scan when it closes.
    Thanks!

Hi jnthn, your UAC suggestion is good but unfortunately it may not fit the current SecureAPlus GUI. In the Advanced Settings of Application Whitelisting, we have a "Status" tab as seen in the screen capture below.

    sap_aw_settings.jpg

If we put the UAC at SecureAPlus tray icon, standard user must enter the correct admin user name and password before they can view the Application Whitelisting status. The only solution is to redesign the entire GUI and we will work on this in the next revamped version ;)

If you have further suggestion on the GUI, please let us know so that we can incorporate it in the next design :)

Hi Solarlynx, sorry, I have missed out your post somehow... Restricting the initial OS disks and user's disk may be technically quite challenging especially when there are so many users. We will not be able to find out where each user's critical applications are located.

Perhaps you can elaborate a bit more on how this can be done?

Hi treehouse786, thank you for the information. We are in the midst of investigating the problem that you have encountered.

Actually, we have a separate installer that installs only application whitelisting with no av at all. But I must say the current GUI is very misleading as it still displays the AV options although they are disabled and in grey. This gives the user the perception that the av is installed but disabled. The truth is there is really no av component being installed if you choose the no av installer. It can be downloaded from https://secureaplus.secureage.com/Main/release.php by clicking on "No Antivirus" button.

Yes, we will definitely look at this GUI issue and improve it in our next revamped version :)

    Hi jnthn,

We are unable to reproduce the problem you are facing. We have tested it on Windows 7 and 8 platforms with Avast free antivirus / Avast Premier antivirus. We have tried to uninstall v2.0.19 with no av and rebooted. Then, we installed v2.0.20 with no AV. Everything works fine, including Avast.

To help us diagnose your problem better, can you please provide us with the following information?

    1. What is the Windows OS of your computer? Is it 32-bit or 64-bit?
    2. Which specific Avast product did you use?
    3. Do you have other security product on the computer?

We also need one more information but need your help to gather for us. Hope you don't mind. Please do the following:

    1. Click on Command Prompt and run as administrator.

    cmd1.jpg

    2. Type the following command:
    fltmc > c:\fltmc.txt
    sc query > c:\service.txt

    cmd2.png

    3. Email c:\fltmc.txt and c:\service.txt to secureaplus@secureage.com.

Hope to hear from you :)

    Cheers,
    sinlam

    Windows 7 SP1 x64
    2. Which specific Avast product did you use?
    Avast free ver 8
    3. Do you have other security product on the computer?
Windows Firewall with Windows Firewall Control frontend and Shadow Defender

Text files sent as requested. At the moment though I'm currently using Panda Cloud AV instead of Avast... I'll give SAP ver 2.0.20 another go this weekend.
