Best USB FlashDrive Antivirus for Added Protection

What can be used as best USB Antivirus to supplement my current 360 Internet security Antivirus?

1.) SMADAV 9.4
2.) USB Disk security
3.) Others?

I am aware that 360 IS has its own USB protection though.

I am also aware that USB Disk Security often has false positives.

Is USB antivirus enough if I also have PrivateFirewall for HIPS?

If you want to protect your computer from USB based malware, then I think these would be enough...
- Turn off autoplay and autorun
- Deny execute access of all removable media classes
- Enable the USB auto-scan function in your AV

If you want to protect your USB flash drives from malware, there's Panda USB Vaccine. But I personally think it doesn't do much. I prefer to have a USB flash drive that is specially used to plug into the computers which aren't mine. So even if it was infected, I just need to reformat it.

 

I use Sandboxie to force the USB content into a restricted sandbox.

SMADAV is Indonesian oriented use, so it will only effective for fighting malware that spread in Indonesia.
I would suggest you use other alternative such as Avast / Avira for much better protection.

 

The deny execute access for removable drives? If your version of Windows supports group policy editor, you just need to type gpedit.msc into your search bar in the start menu. Then you'll enter the group policy editor. Now follow this path:

Local Computer Policy --> Administrative Templates --> System --> Removable Storage Access --> Enable the "Deny execute access" to the removable storage classes you want.

P.S.: Group policy editor isn't available in the home versions of Windows OSes. There are some registry tweaks to enable it via registry editor though, but I don't remember the exact path.

P.P.S.: I'm not sure if PGS can be used for this since I haven't tested it myself, other members with more knowledge can clarify this perhaps?

I am using Windows 8.1 Pro RTM.

If I use that settings, what other adverse effects will it cause to my computer when I plugin a USB drive? Will it unable me to run programs directly from the USB?

 

its very good for me, forticlient free = a good anti malware + a strict web filter.
you can manually config the web filter if you find it too strict

Basically yes. No execution is allowed from your USB flash drives. If used in conjunction with disabling autoplay and autorun, IMO it's powerful enough. But I can't be really sure if there are malware which can bypass it.

 

It keeps flagging my registry. Seriously, it was after a clean reinstall. Made no sense at all to me.

OK... I have copied an executable file and it wasn't executed. But, could I still use the USB for booting? (like Linux distros)

What about the links/shortcuts? Most viruses/trojans create shortcuts in the USB. Will they be executed also?

It's outside of the Windows, so it won't work before Windows loads. That's where the bootkits will be the major threat.

As long as the excutable is in the USB flash drive, it won't execute. The shortcut is just a... shortcut. It just tells where the actual executable is.

Of course it was a clean reformat. I haven't touch it since that time though, so I don't know how is it now. But IMO the mainstream AVs will take care of the malware regardless of the origin of the malware, so country specific AVs are not necessary at all.
