WiseCare 365 Free

Anyone have any experience with the utility WiseCare 365 (free)? Is it safe to use?

 

I've been trying out a recent giveaway of WiseCare 365 Pro, which is WC Free with the Privacy scanner activated. I've come to like the program very much. It offers more cleaners than WinUtilities, SlimCleaner or CCleaner, but they are set up in a strange way. For instance, you have an overall "PC Checkup" which scans and then cleans if you decide to. Then you have a "Common Cleaner" which will find further files to clean. Then you have "Advanced Cleaner" which will find still more files to clean. If you go to the Pro version, you have a "Privacy Cleaner" which will probably not find anything if you use the other three!

So far its cleaning hasn't caused me any problems at all. Even the Advanced Cleaner just seems to weed out Firefox, Norton and Explorer temporary files. It's manual, like WinUtilities, so it doesn't take over the machine. YOU decide what to get rid of. I DO like the System Slimming function, which allows you to quickly find the extraneous files like Windows Sample Videos, Photos, Wallpaper and Music Files and get rid of them if you like.

It has a defragmenter (I don't use it, but it plays well with Puran, so no harm, no foul). It's Registry Cleaner and Registry Defrag are very fast. Before anyone yells at me, I'm not endorsing cleaning and defragging the registry, but they're there if you need them. It also has a File Shredder which can be activated by right-click (Privazer is still my choice for this function, however!). It's Ethernet Optimization and System Tweaks helped a bit, but not so as I would notice if I didn't know that Wise had tweaked them.

Overall, I rate it 3.5-4 out of 5 stars. I like it better than CCleaner and SlimCleaner and a little better than the old full-function 10.42 WinUtilities. I can't promise you won't have trouble, but I have had pretty fair service so far.

If you like safe cleaners, SlimCleaner has a Cloud rating system which rates the files you want to clean before you get rid of them (sometimes the Cloud gets them mixed up, but it's mostly spot-on).

I like SlimCleaner better than CCleaner as it offers a more comprehensive cleaning solution and certainly seemed to clean more debris. When you download Windows Updates, Slim does a great job of getting rid of the leftover files. It also has an excellent file shredder. I've been able to shred files that other shredders had trouble with (especially installers). It also has a good Startup Manager. You can check the Cloud and see if the item really should be disabled. Slim is also a Gold-Certified Windows partner, so one would think they might know what they're doing.

The two areas about which I didn't like Slim was that its registry cleaner never seemed to clean ANYTHING. It even left me wondering if it was working! The other area was the whole Cloud thing. A few of the Cloud ratings could be off a bit, getting the file name correct, but the user rating might not apply to the program it belonged to. If you're a privacy nut, the fact that Slim calls back home with everything you've got on your machine might give you pause.

Then, the same could be said for Wise. They seem to hide their origin (I'm pretty sure Wise is a Chinese company). When you Whois their website, the owner is a proxy. Still, I figure if they're going to spy on me, they can join the World Wide Club!

Wise has seemed to clean VERY well, but the three-layered cleaners are somewhat strange. I suppose they figured the PC Checkup would suffice for most purposes. I think the registry cleaner is at least equal to CCleaner's, perhaps better. Overall, I like the Wise better for no Cloud, it has a VERY thorough Startup Manager, thorough cleaner, fair defrag, System Slimmer, and great selection of tools. Honestly, I don't think you'll miss the Privacy Cleaner. It really doesn't do much after you use the other three cleaners (I think they are all active in the Free version). As I said, so far I like the program. I'm definitely going to keep it.

One other thing I didn't like about SlimCleaner: it doesn't uninstall cleanly. I hate when programs uninstall and leave folders behind. Slim leaves a folder with cleaning record texts in it. Not hard to get rid of, but irritating. Definitely not a reason not to try it though!

WinUtilities, for example, uninstalls cleanly- not file one left. I don't know about Wise (so far, I don't plan on getting rid of it). I think CCleaner leaves cleanly as well (I can't remember exactly).
