Interesting. I want to test them out to capture a fast moving object. I wonder if the blurring will be any different from a filter in image editing software.

 

If the object is moving directly towards or away from the camera, I suppose what they describe could give results of interest. However, for an object speeding across the frame, I think the image quality (in terms of motion blur, i.e. time lapse effect) would depend more on shutter speed than on taking the image at multiple focal lengths.

 

Yep. But camcorder is still the best way to capture fast moving objects, regardless of how advanced the still image capturing technology would develop.

If the object moves at a high speed, I dunno. I need to see it in action myself. Do note about what crofttk said about the object crossing the frame.

 

Noted. I know with Birds in flight that fast shutter speed are required especially small fast birds. The Egret I shot above I used a 1/2500 shutter speed to be sure of no motion blur with a 7.1 DOF @ ISO 320 Single point with continues focus.

 

I think there was something similar, although much bigger. I think it was called Lytro.
