Firewall free + Av free

I want to put a firewall free + av free on computer Win7 x86.Your opinion helped to choose Fw free + Av free.Fw free + Av free without conflicts and many pop-aps and the best protection.What do you think of the new Avira free + ZA Free it good combination?Give your suggestions how to choose the best free solution...

 

Imo the best and most complete free solution is Comodo. But you need to spend a few hours to get familiar with it. If you choose Comodo i suggest to take a close look at here: http://help.comodo.com/topic-72-1-451-4760-HIPS-Behaviour-Settings.html (i mean the whole help mage of comodo IS )

 

Comodo is excellent, but I have children who do not understand a lot of what to block and what allow.Aim to combine fw free + av free.Example my favorite is Avira free would be forceful with fw free - (?)za, comodo, prfw .....

 

windows 7 firewall is good enough in most cases, after reading your post it sounds as if HIPS is out of the question. Avira is very good, you could pair up Avira w/ windows 7 firewall and, if you wish, you could download sandboxie to isolate your chosen browser. Avast is very good too, there are a few good free AV's out there now. try a few AV's and see which ones work for you.

 

Put Comodo in Clean PC mode and everything already installed is trusted, with no popups at all.

and poof, no pop up. I use this setting for my father laptop, and he's a happy camper.

 

It's easy. Just go to www.microsoft.com and install MSE v4.216 and keep Windows Firewall. The MSE are very very light and works now like a pay AV.
Then be careful in Browsers Firefox or Chrome v24 and activate the security extensions like Adblock Plus, the Disconnect, the Norton DNS or Traffic Light for Chrome and from there the PC is safe.

Comodo is excellent but I had problems with the latest version so I went ZA firewall + Qihu 360 Internet Security for AV. I tried them on a virtual machine and all worked well so I went with that combo. Also at the time ZoneAlarm had received excellent reviews for the firewall component and Q360 for AV. Recently though I saw low scores for Qihu in some other tests.

Another option might be ZoneAlarm Free firewall and antivirus. It should have no conflicts, but ZoneAlarm av has received poor reviews in the past and the majorgeeks.com rating for it is 2 out of 5 at the time of writing. When I tried it on a virtual machine it was very light and cnoflict free for me though.

Other simple, light possibilities are Windows 7 firewall (with Windows Firewall Control for a little extra convenience to control it) and either Microsoft Security Essentials or Qihu 360. Avira might be another option for AV, but I haven't tried it - my understanding is that it's not as light or hassle free as MSE or Q360.

 

I decided to try the free Avira+ZA firewall free ...I leave Avira toolbar or ZA toolbar?Your opinion please?Maybe put and Zemana.What do you think, a good combination?

 

There are days I uninstall Bitdefender because my pc was running very slow and I ended up installing MSE soon my pc started to function normally with AdGuard.

 

I agree MSE are light and protect the pc

 

Just use ZA free with its free AV and you will risk no conflicts. Be sure that you use the latest version (780) as in previous version several bugs in the Kaspersky SDK engine caused a drop in detection in test

As most of you have, I've tried various FW & AV apps ever since I first installed WinXP (I'm now on Win7). Preferring to go with freeware (on a teaching salary), I finally wound up with the apps listed under 'Realtime Protection' in my signature - which I have found to be truly excellent.

I would also agree to use the built-in firewall and MSE/other free AV of choice. To block access to dangerous websites you can use OpenDNS or NortonDNS. Also disable the autorun and autoplay to prevent USB infections. I think it's enough in most cases for the typical home PC users.

why exactly would i take gizmos opinion on what is the best antivirus or firewall as a given fact.?

There are countless websites which give opinion on the best of av and firewall so why choose gizmos over others.

I think personal experience and trying out programs for yourself would be more conclusive than mere opinions of others.

It's not gizmo's opinion and no one's claiming it as a "given fact". The recommendations come from volunteers for respective categories. In this case, it's no different than looking at reviews or opinions elsewhere. The point of me listing the links is for the OP to get a list of identified/known/popular programs in the respective category and then makes one's own decision after trying out for oneself. As for why Gizmo site specifically, well,...it's among the best review/catalogue sites for freeware as far as my opinion goes. I don't earn money from it.

Agreed but when one's starting out, opinions can help one can get a better picture of the experience across a board of users. As usual, the saying "your mileage may vary" remains valid.
