I don't see the justification in being so passionate about blocking adverts when browsing the web. It's a little like driving to a fairground and justifying going on the rides for free....based on the cost of the petrol for getting to the ground.

It costs a small fortune to produce web content. I know our editorial costs are huge. Most websites do not turn a profit. Any profit that is generated, is from advertising and sponsorship (through ads).

Without this, blocking the revenue which justifies the sites, won't make for a great long-term browsing experience. Someone, somewhere, has to pay for the servers, the content.

I understand blocking pop-up ads or annoying ads that get in the way of your browsing, but why the need to block leaderboards, skyscrapers etc? Just odd to me.

I agree that some flexibility is necessary regarding ads. The problem is ads are often associated with spyware/malware/scareware. Anyone who has experienced that rubbish is likely to want to stamp out ads as completely as possible. Even legitimate services are engaging in data mining and some folks find that unacceptable. On the other hand some sites really rely on ad revenue so if people like the content they find on those sites they should think twice about blocking the source of their revenue. One thing I like about Adblock Plus is it's easy to allow ads on a site specific basis - support the sites of choice.

  3. On second thoughts, I have to say it is a draw after all (2-2). No benefits from Avast anti-tracing when the Avast web-rep service provides a user id cookie which can be traced o_O hope this a beta glitch :argh:

Beta 3 is blocking pingtest.net.....anyone can tell me how to avoid this? already excluded the site in the web shield. If you disable Avast, the test is working fine.

Tested RC1 with Spywar's latest malware pack 119 on malwaretips.

PUP enabled, XP SP3 32 Real System i.e no VM

DeepScreen appeared for app. 30 samples & mentioned nothing found, not a single detection.

Are all aspects of DeepScreen working fully in RC? They dont give any info about DeepScreen in release notes.

It can detect keyloggers, but doesn't have any special anti-logger capabilities.

Thank you, Brandonn. Wanted to make sure they wouldn't conflict with each other.

I am looking toward the final release also, I am also reading Avast forums to keep up with the latest progress . So far "deepscreen" does not work right.

It can be, but that seems like a long time since they started working on it this August.

I would probably expect a final release date prior to Windows 8.1 update launch or shortly after.

If it would be released next October, they wouldn't put it in a Release Candidate state already.

Ok, for the 3d time, Avast 2014 RC, is blocking pingtest/Java! please someone test this, or tell me a way how to avoid it.

I tested it more then 20 times, with Avast enabled it just freezes on verification page.

With Avast disabled, it continues without any issues. Also the cpu spikes (AvasSvc.exe) during 1080p playback mostly during fast forwarding or fast rewind of the video are not fixed yet.
