That's true, but what annoys me is that ESET is playing deaf to this matter for years, and for no good reason, they're just expanding and expanding...

They're falling behind also in term of detection rates and performance, which used to be their strong hold in the past.

Overall I see that ESET is declining, and I'm absolutely unhappy about it, I always used their products at home and at work, and highly recommended it - as a vendor - with confidence to so many people and companies over the years, I can't do that anymore.

I remember I read that Avast 2014 line of security products has a Wi-Fi security feature, not sure about other vendors.

Did you tried the new release (7 beta)? It seems to be pretty good, i think with this version Eset is back to the "game".

In my experience Nod32 does much better in real world usage than in lab tests.

Not yet. But once the final version is released, I'll give a try, and if I'm initially impressed I'll test it intensively.

Lab tests nowadays take into account real-world testing methods and scenarios more than ever before.

@ Quad: What, you didn't know that? If users are happy with its stability, performance and detection/effectiveness, which seems the case judging by the lack of complaints on various forums, it just means Eset are too honest if anything. ;) Just visit, say, the G-Dud 2014 thread on rokop (you can use google translator) and then say which one is better.

I do my own testing I don't just rely solely on labs tests, but I still take their results into account as initial indicators at times.

Plus, falling behind in tests doesn't necessarily indicate honesty, or does it?

If I have to choose between lab results and the users' evaluations, I'll go for the latter. That said, I've heard somewhere that Eset is the geek's favorite, so the good rap it gets re: effectiveness may just have to do with its users being smarter or something :D. Of course if you don't feel safe, there are a few other options that manage to do well on both counts.

F-Secure are a very competent vendor who develops quite a bit of their AV on their own despite being a BD clone, but it seems they love to be thorough, take their time and keep things simple, which they can overdo at times. For example, they were too slow to switch to BD from Kaspersky a few years ago (probably they were afraid of the former's bugs), who started selling an outdated version of its engine to their licensees. Of course, even though the product's almost as effective at its main job as Kaspersky or BD, it just doesn't have as many/good advanced features (one of them being the online banking one, just plain useless :() as them either. In short, unfortunately they don't really care about them.

I'd say I just love that it ain't nothing like G-Dud though. Laughing at Pity the fools on rokop who still have faith in that one o_O, its numpty "developers" :doubt: , who're only good at cramming, cramming and cramming licensed stuff into the mess but not at such "trivialities" as QC or developing anything on their own :gack:; or the guys calling themselves malware researchers , who are never invited anywhere 'cause everyone knows they couldn't catch a cold let alone malware  (just look how seldom anything is posted on their blog at all and how barely any detections come from Emperor's new clothes the new engine). :D
