I just downloaded and am playing with it today. I'll see tomorrow if it updates. Seems like it was having a tough time updating earlier. Trespasser seems to have the same problem as I've had. It's just a beta, so hopefully things start to improve. I'm still waiting for a system protection alert or something other than a signature detection.
VB 100 : RAP averages quadrant Feb - August 2013 http://www.virusbtn.com/vb100/RAP/RAP-quadrant-Feb-Aug13-1200.jpg Check Baidu performance.... Far behind Kingsoft, Roboscan, Qihoo, Tencent, AhnLab ..........
Trespasser.. I'm using 4 Beta and just checked and yes avupdate.exe is there in the folder plus all the avira defs. Plus I'm not getting Avira defs updates everyday maybe every 3 days or so. I don't understand why people are getting definition updates at different intervals though.
Duh, it's also well below Avira. How can it be below Avira when it uses the Avira database? Past 2-3 weeks on my system, Baidu has been updating the Avira database daily, and the program at least twice. I think it's ready for prime time.
I installed the beta but the cloud icon is greyed out & it won't stop saying updating. Also i went into services.msc & the Baidu Antivirus Service won't start. It gives me an error(see pic). Any thoughts as to fixing this.Any help would be appreciated.
Check the positions of Kaspersky & Check Point aka ZoneAlarm (Check Point uses the Kaspersky engine & database). Check the positions of Bitdefender & Roboscan (Roboscan uses the Bitdefender engine & database). Check the positions of Bitdefender & Emsisoft (Emsisoft uses 2 engines: in-house & Bitdefender engine & database). etc....
Probably OT: Kingsoft wasn't dead? I had the eternal update problem. Have you tried to reinstall (or uninstall and then reinstall)?
Avira by itself updates 6 times in a day from my experience and that is what should be happening here too I am really tired of most free AV's right now,I need a new toy to play with...Probably will get to baidu someday.
New Version (2013-09-29)Baidu Antivirus 4.0.1.45150 FIXED Fixed the bug of Cloud File Scanner Fixed the problem of BavAs and BavBase crash Fixed the problem of false positives for individual files
Didn't fix the Digital Signature error for me.I still can't scan or update because BAVSvc.exe won't start.I e-mailed them a few times about it.I tried re-installing...nothing is working.I really want to try this av.I guess i have to give up & uninstall again.
BTW, it's not yet compatible with Win 8.1. Doesn't catch anything on download just like BD Free. Just as a side note, Avira Free's latest RC (14.0.0.383) is very compatible with Win 8.1. Everything seems to work perfectly. Later...
As unlikely as it sounds, it seems they use the same database, but they don't use them correctly. AV's usually search their entire database for binary strings found in the unknown files. It seems foolproof, but I guess it's not. Or maybe there's bias or payola going on. Ugh! 4.X Beta took a step backward in the GUI. It's almost ugly now.

Two possible reasons: Default settings: maybe the Avira engine is only used for scans and not for real time protection. Update delay should have impact on the reactive score, when they (VB) really use zero day samples the first detection (proactive score) could also be influenced negatively.
Both quads (6-month and Aug-only) on comss show Baidu quite a bit below Avira while the former actually scores only little worse in terms of figures in the Aug-only test. There are some other inconsistencies between the Aug quad and figures , so the 6-month quad is probably inaccurate, too.
