    Impossible to hack or penetrate...

Tall claims. It would have sounded more believable if it was April 1st...but it isn't.

He should stick to what he's been doing. It gets him the attention and life's more fun that way. Leave the legacy alone and enjoy the reputation.

Thought i'm sure he is exaggerating the type of technology he is talking about already exist. The problem is that the only users using this technology are tech savvy users, security professionals, and the government types with a big wallet. I have not had any infection that i'm aware of in the past 15 years, and i'm constantly doing research on the internet. I visit many new pages everyday. If users would just take the time to educate themselves about cyber security they could make themselves just about bullet proof with the technology available today. Most users are only using a traditional antivirus, and do not know anything about the other options available to mitigate security threats.

John McAfee wants to decentralize the internet with a tool called Decentral. The device or technology is never the problem. Widespread adoption is the problem. He does McAfee before, so lets see if he can repeat the widespread adoption.

    john mcafee new "d-central" gadget

    http://news.softpedia.com/news/John...rotects-Users-Against-NSA-Spying-387309.shtml

Enlarge picture - Time until D-Central is launched
Last week, John McAfee revealed that he was planning to start a new company that would make the Internet unhackable. Over the weekend, McAfee provided additional details regarding his plans at the C2SV Technology Conference.

According to Mercury News, McAfee wants to build a pocket-size gadget that will allow users to surf the web securely and privately, away from the prying “eyes” of the US government.

The device, dubbed D-Central, will allegedly prevent the US National Security Agency from knowing the user’s identity or their location.

D-Central will communicate with tablets, smartphones and other devices to create a decentralized network that will be impossible to hack by intelligence agencies. A D-Central prototype is expected to be released in six months.

McAfee says that if the US government decides to ban D-Central, he’ll simply sell it in England, Japan or third world countries.

As TechCrunch highlights, the idea is very similar to the Occupy.here project.

I haven't been following this that closely, but were the charges dropped and he returned to the United States, or did he just flee to the United States and the charges remain outstanding in Guatemala? Granted, we are supposed to presume innocence, but if charges remain pending in a foreign country and he simply hasn't be extradited and tried... then the whole bit about "detailing his adventures and publishing funny videos" as well as "comic books about his life" seems to be in rather poor taste. He very well could be a murderer for all we know.

he seems to be generally in poor taste most of the time anyway. he is like the comedian that you go to see and who is simply not funny but thinks he is the most funny person on the planet and laughs at all his own jokes... at least imo

    I'm guessing that it's a bootable USB, or maybe even a thumbdrive-size micro-computer, with connectivity via Tor and/or VPN(s).

I find it implausible that he (and whoever) have developed some revolutionary technology. Anything's possible, of course ;)

    Hey, it sounds cool :)

    But if it's not open-source ...?

Also, home-brew crypto is generally unwise, right?
