Thanks Barb, very good of you, and no you were very clear the first time. I was merely pointing out we were promised a free version upgrade by Erik sometime ago that would make whether you manage to get support for a free 'Wilders' upgrade or not irrelevant for some of us.

Don't get me wrong I don't mind paying (annually even) to keep the product going. It was clarity I was looking for, nothing else. If the circumstances that made Erik's commitment appropriate at that time have changed then fine, let's just be clear on it.

    Regards

That sounds good, but I think sliders or buttons for each type of program would be simpler and more flexible: Signed, Unsigned, and Trusted Publisher, and you can set the slider or buttons to Deny, Guarded, or Unguarded. Then next to/below those you can say what Deny, Guarded, and Unguarded do. Maybe something like this, but fancier:

I personally am glad that what I suggested Eirik over 2 years ago is finally being worked on with version 4, a simplified version with enough punch in its DNA to still be innately effective. And hopefully you'll be able to somehow implement my recent suggestion of providing a multiple mode interface so users can choose between basic, advanced and maybe even wizard modes.

Will there be a final release of the current beta? It seems to be very stable to me. All the other members I have communicated with said it works very well for them also. I will like testing V4, but I will likely stay with the final of the current beta. I'm very happy with it. After i'm sure the bugs have been ironed out of V4 I may start using it on critical machines if I find I like it. I'm just interested in testing it for now.

Btw.. Did they address the BlackHole Exploit Kit in version 4?

By Barb in response to the same question:

"No. Our chief architect has a prototype, but we have not had the bandwidth (development and QA resources) to get it into production. We hope to be able to include it soon."

You're welcome. If I recall, the bypass wasn't a huge deal, as it only shut the GUI down, not protection, and it was blocked from making an autorun entry, rendering it harmless on a reboot. I think.

A visual indication via a color change in system tray to tell the difference between lockdown & Medium should be moved up the 'to-do' list.

I updated mine this morning (after receiving the new version message) with no license issues at all.

Yes, I am interested to find out too.

I have a lifetime license before the policy change on 1st April 2011, will I be affected?

As you said Barb, "...is that AppGuard is not for the novice user. Since we need to pay our bills...we really need to make AppGuard easier to use so that it can be adopted by less technically savvy users..."

The way it is now, it is not instantly recognizable to know what 'Protection Mode' the user is currently set at. By making the systray icon completely change colors it would make it easier to know what mode AG is in.

Nice change to the GUI. Personally, I believe in "Simple elegance."

    Robert

P.S. Don't forget about Media Center's problems in 'Guarded Apps'.

Barb, the only way I could get Media Center on Win8 x64 to run correctly was to add ehshell.exe to 'MemoryGuard' with 'Read' rights. In 'Guarded Apps' Media Center is set to Off On Off. Do not need to do that with anything else in 'Guarded Apps'.

    Hope it helps,
    Robert

I like it. Won't be able to do for 4.0, but perhaps a future version.

The 3.5 release went live yesterday. It is the same as the last beta so no need to upgrade.

No, we have not addressed the BlackHole Exploit Kin in Version 4, but if Brandonn2010 and my recollection is correct, this attack did not result in a persistent threat. My comment in another post was related to an attack that someone reported against the master boot record. That is the prototyping that I mentioned in another post (will try to correct that post if it isn't too late). This is one of the reasons we're discontinuing MBRGuard support in 4.0. We know there are a lot of improvements that we'd like to MBRGuard to make it more effective - just haven't been able to devote the resources to develop it.

Actually that is great feedback. It reinforces our decision to relax MG policy slightly in 4.0. The new 4.0 MG policy will address this very issue without having to add ehshell.exe to the MG exception list.

Yes, the latest official release is the exact same product as the 2nd beta. There is no need to re-install. Sorry - should have mentioned when I posted the links, but was in a hurry to leave for the day.

If you have 3.4 version installed, you can just upgrade to 3.5 - no need to uninstall/reinstall. Your license will still be valid.

I might be able to quickly get an icon with a lock over-lay to represent the locked down mode. I'll see what I can do. Our CEO wants version 4.0 in the next two weeks so we're trying to finalize everything now.

Lol, I didn't know it was so expansive :D Would love to see a few screenshots of the MC GUI.

I like it as well :)

Or perhaps how about the idea of an advanced mode like I suggested earlier, but then the advanced mode is the same as in 3.4/3.5 but then you can set it to custom and drop-down menus will appear and you can set it to what you prefer:
