I'm a gamer too. Have a ton of games installed on my desktop. Currently I am also running the ESET 7 beta. If you went by the RAM usage, it would be heavy. (100+ MB). The system just doesn't feel bogged down, thankfully. I have 4 game clients installed (Steam, Origin, Uplay, Desura) and haven't had any problems with any of them. Haven't noticed any strange game activity either as it has a pretty good gamer mode that kills popups and messages while full screen game is up.

its still one of my top favorites and probably always will be unless they go and start screwing it up like many other companies have done recently. its a awesome gui (imo) and for me it has always detected more than the tests say it does in real world use. v7 has been flawless for me. honestly i would never have known it was a beta to be honest if they released it. had zero issues and runs super light.

I agree with zfactor, its light lately and I believe its protection is indeed what you need,The only thing I wish is a bit more better HIPS with a whitelist :)

I had 1 pc at home with KIS and I put eset and never had to worry!

I would have to say that out of the half a dozen security programs i have tried,ESET is by far the lightest and my computer does not even feel like it has an av installed at all.

I have 4gb of ram so ram usage is not important.Sure eset is currently using 90mb of ram but it sure doesnt show on my computer and this indicates to me extremely good coding by the developers at eset and i congratulate them for this.

I did have comodo installed running at only 10mb but the computer fely bogged down.

I am using the trial version of eset at the moment and im so pleased with this product that im going to buy it when the trial nearly ends.

Normally im a strong advocate of free security software but eset has impressed me highly and worth a purchase.

Hi I have already used a 30 day trial with eset smart security version 5. Now I want to trial version 6, can I do this with simply installing over version 5 or do I need to uninstall the previous version first? Will my trial for version 6 work if I install it over my expired v5?

I don't want to uninstall version 5 completely as I want to keep my current settings.

    Thanks for the reply.

I didn't give an answer in the thread below because I am not 100% sure. :doubt:

    https://forum.eset.com/topic/1029-can-i-trial-eset-ss-version-6-if-i-have-used-trial-with-version-5/
But since you have an ongoing thread on the official forum I figure it will be best to wait for an reply in that thread wich will come ASAP. :)

In anycase I would recommend an V5 uninstall -> V6 fresh install to avoid any problems (even if over the top installs are supported), and setting up the settings should not take more than a minute or two. :thumb:

As long as we are talking about what we like about ESET, let me point out that I greatly appreciate the company's stated position that they will detect all malware, including that created by governments. Given all of the revelations about NSA spying, I am to the point now where I have no trust in any American software company or Internet service provider to safeguard my privacy. (Honestly, I don't know that I ever trusted Chinese or Russian anitivirus companies eventhough I still have a license for KIS.) As shown in this older Wilders thread, ESET at least seems to want to make an effort to take care of their users in the face of governmental spying efforts.

    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=319731

Who knows how effective they can be in the face of targeted efforts by sophisticated governments, but I applaud them for trying. That is at least a little bit of what makes me want to give them some of my money and buy their product.

I also am very appreciative that some of their top researchers are very active in their support forums. I think that is a huge advantage for them as compared to other companies.

Unfortunately still no reply on the eset forums.

Thanks for the reply. Do you know if I need to go in he registry and clean it up in order for the trial to work?

Also is there a way to export the settings in a file or smth similar?

They frequently make big discoveries like Kaspersky, Bitdefender or F-Secure do, so they must have the brainpower even though it may not always translate to test results. That could be because stability and lightness/ease is seemingly their first priority.

All I can say is, I do not think it is possible to activate a trial by using the same email adress twice, as then users could to that over and over after the 30day trial period has passed.

Yes you can export the settings from within the product.

    HTH :)

A couple of months ago I purchased a 3 PC - 1 year license of ESET Smart Security 6 for $20. I was in a hurry and didn't notice that it was ESET Smart Security 6. I wanted ESET Antivirus 6. I am happy that ESET allows free downgrades to ESET Antivirus. I will have to make sure that I buy ESET Antivirus 3 PC - 1 year the next time that it is on Sale so that I can use the license when the ESET Smart Security license comes up for renewal.

One can disabled this in the setup tree so you won't see notifications about win updates in the future :)

    Hi guys.
So just to be sure. v6>>>v4 (in regards to footprint)
    right?
I'm just looking for a LIGHT AV. Good for gaming (actually the whole "gaming mode" was what made me think about changing versions)
    Thanks for your help.-

ESET has always had low system footprint. As of version 5, the number of scanned files has decreased substantially thanks to LiveGrid and Smart optimization. Should you encounter an issue with v6 or v7, feel free to contact Customer care or leave a post in our official forum https://forum.eset.com and we'll be happy to assist you.

I remember several years ago when I paid over 60 USD for a 1-year single user license NOD32. There's no way anyone's paying that these days when the competition is this good. :)
