Do you still have to install the toolbar for the web filter?

You can uninstall the toolbar later.

I realize that. I thought they had plans to make the url filter available without installing the toolbar first. I was asking if they implemented that yet.

    Overal impression
performance (CPU overhead, disk access) is better as AV-Comparatives performance test suggest. o_O PC mark drop is below 2 %, startup chromium (unsigned) cold is 10% extra but still under 500 milliseconds (so within one second it is started). Startup of signed apps is faster (e.g. delay <6% for signed office apps), it feels faster than version 2.1 :thumb:

    Identity Protection
Great new feature :thumb: :thumb: , data protection is a revival of the "data access monitor/file wall" in the old days often combined with a firewall. Just make sure to narrow down the protected directories to the one really containing documents, pictures and movies. By limiting the folders, you also limit the programs needing access rights, hence increasing the attention value of a data shield pop-up.

    Access Control
Also something previous versions lacked. In combination with parental control a must (to prevent this limitation from being bypassed), which is good Possible hole in ACCESS CONTROL, service can be stopped through services.msc (console) :thumbd: (lousy testing by Panda's quality & acceptance team)

A lot of services being installed in the free version, only two visible in services.msc.

I've always thought that this looks more like a bug than a genuine way to install the URL filter alone.

During installation, you can select not to install the toolbar, and the "Parental Control" web filtering is still available. Interestingly, there is no "Malware" category in the "Parental Control" category list - I just assumed that it was automatically covered by the Panda AV app.

I confess I haven't tested filtering of malware sites. I hope Panda doesn't force you to install the toolbar (even if you can uninstall it later) to get malware URL filtering.

Didn't quite like the program. Ran the uninstall tool and it broke my internet connection. Had to restore the system image in the end.

    Panda rocks!

On my XP SP3 system the current free version is a little buggy:

    1. The scan settings are not saved. After a restart of the computer the default settings are in effect again.

    2. When the software is installed, Windows always shuts down with the dirty shutdown bit set. After every restart Windows wants to do a Chkdsk on the system drive.

Otherwise I like the software. Very light on my ancient computer...

    Cheers

Even from a Standard user account?

  10. Re: Panda Cloud Antivirus 2.2 Released

No with UAC elevated to Admin through services.msc. But for parental control the password protection should also require confirmation when triggered from service stop.

From a parent point of view, the situtation is not an improvement
    1. Child disables AV service to circumvent parental control/acces control of AV
    2. Child surfes to blocked IP's/website's WITHOUT AV protection o_O

This should have been a regular test case in acceptance/regression test (it is luckily not as stupid as bypassing Comodo using its own de-installer, but such an obvious detour should be in the test set).

Okay, but if the UAC elevation password isn't known by the kids, how can they circumvent it?

  12. Re: Panda Cloud Antivirus 2.2 Released

True, but default is prompt for consent on secure desktop, so . . .

Someone on the Panda support forum said it'd be nice if there were a way to clear the list of visited web sites (under Parental Control). Has anyone figured out how to do that?

How is the community firewall in Panda Cloud Pro? Is it a full firewall, or am I mistaken by the "community" name that somehow relates to a voting system of sort.

i don't use the firewall, but afaik it's a full firewall.
a firewall based on any voting sistem by the users would be a dead issue.

Anyone else have problem with the "auto/transparent update" in PCAV?

I have a couple of installs running in different places, the oldest one is version 2.1.1 up to 2.2. Latest is version 2.2.1 right?
    They still do not update...

Usually you will be told by Panda that it will take a couple of weeks before all updates are distributed, but cmon, its been a while since 2.1.1 ehh?

Anyone else then me who wish for a manual "check for update button" in PCAV?

Yeah that would be great. I remember having to install 2.1 on a PC because it had an very old version, I recently had access to that PC again, and it was still on 2.1...
My top wishes for PCAV are integrated URL filter and manual update button.

Re: Panda Cloud Antivirus 2.2 Released

    Hi Panda enthusiasts,

It is truly a community firewall that includes intrusion prevention and a rating system for processes that is somewhat comparable to avast! webrep. Though users are not consciously voting on process trust levels. Like the windows firewall, it includes a network settings config based on trust level (i.e. public, work, and home).

That is because the release only includes minor changes, like when some hotfixes are sent out. The next automatic update may not be till v2.3.

You may be right in theory or maybe just an enthusiast like the rest of us ;), but i have only seen an auto update one time on one pc (out of four) in now a couple of years of use, all pc's get formatted each year, so i see the same as some in this thread and like others have reported before.

The auto update is just not that well made i suspect and although it's not enough for me to get rid of a product i use & like i would very much like a small manuel button one could use instead of having to use the installer each time i see a new version is out a few weeks ago, because auto simply does not work reliably unlike the rest of PCAV. :)

in my case (2 computers) PCAV also did not upgrade automatically. i had to do it manual, install the new version on top of the old one. manual upgrade 2.0 -> 2.1 and 2.1 -> 2.2.
