For some reason the 3.5 version makes my Firefox boot up slower. Web browsing is fine though. Had to disable for now.

Since the extension code, whitelists, and blacklists aren't available, I'd like to find out more about the company, but the Disconnect forum appears to have been, err, disconnected. While the forum has been scanned by the internet archive (http://web.archive.org/web/*/https://forum.disconnect.me/), the posts aren't available, perhaps blocked. For a company that purports to be protecting the public, there isn't much transparency.

The list used by Disconnect is actually encrypted (https://github.com/disconnectme/dis.../disconnect.safariextension/opera/chrome/data) and I just compared with my install of Disconnect to see if it is the same list as the one on Github, and it is not. I don't know why it is encrypted, it makes it rather difficult to see what is in the list.

I might be the only one, but Disconnect is really killing Firefox for me. As that counter goes up and all those content requests get processed and allowed, Firefox starts to choke badly and freeze for seconds at a time. Even when there isn't much to ban or allow, it seems like it takes forever for Firefox to respond to clicks. I'll look around at the forum, but I had to get rid of it for the time being.

Re: Disconnect 3.10.1 I'm running a pretty basic setup with ABP, Noscript and formerly Disconnect. I went through disabling each one and found that indeed Disconnect was causing the slowdown. Without it, I'm observing normal Firefox behavior, neither too slow nor exceptionally fast. The documentation on the website was helpful to read to understand the extension, but unfortunately I could not find a solution. Perhaps I'll try again at a later version.

I think it's less an acceptable ads situation and more of a thing where they are just allowing way, way too much "content". I've seen hundreds of requests labeled as content on there, with one or two hits in the advertising column. They act like blocking more than a handful of things is going to break the web. I don't know, my main concern was that it was just making Firefox crawl for me.
