    Hi The Hammer,

It seems to get offered again and again, even after you thought that you have installed it; lots of postings about it on the internet.

Let's try here to get that current issue in one place ;) :

Microsoft is looking at it. As soon as we know more, I'm sure that one of us will post about it there ;)

Windows updates are a real pain. I still do not get why you need to install so many updates then reboot and install more. why cant you install all in one go like on linux?
checking for updates even with local wsus takes ages. at work we have had some machines with windows 8 started at 9am stilll doing updates at 5pm.

Since you cannot use the product without a license key I do not understand why microsoft cannot post monthly updated isos of all their supported operating systems. this would make things alot quicker and easier.

Yeah, just yesterday I did a reformat and reinstall from scratch of Win 7 x64 and then Office 2007, only to have this same issue hit me too. There were 3 updates that installed, and then every time I checked for updates they wanted to install again. I assumed that they would probably keep installing over and over on a daily basis every time I shut down. So.... I got fed up and am now using the Win 8.1 Preview for a while. Maybe they'll get it straightened out in a few weeks or a month or two, who knows... This is the kind of stuff that is really annoying about Windows. It happens from time to time.

Also, as for the thread title, I notice that updates seem to install much faster on a new OS. I'm assuming that things just bog down after 100 updates or so have been installed, who knows. All the .NET updates are super slow in general. Vista was really really slow. On Win 8.1, update installs are super fast, and installs in general are really fast. I don't know how much is due to it being a clean new OS, and how much is due to continued core improvements to the OS above and beyond 7's technology. But it's nice when you're running a new clean OS.

Same here but only on my Vista(32bit) machine, 3 security updates for Office 2007 suites and Excel [KB2760411] [KB2760588] [KB2760590]. After the 3rd install I gave up...
Edit: I've just checked, it's fine now.

My slow updating was due to slow downloading, it took 30 min to download 100 MB updates just for Windows 8, installing took only a minute.
I can download 10 GB game from steam in 5 minutes, so it is not internet speed connection problem. I guess, that updates overload their servers.

You would still need to install windows and apply those patches after which would still require multiple reboots. what I would want is an up to date windows iso that I can use to install windows and have all the latest updates already applied. at work we have a wsus server which has all the updates. we save bandwidth and downloading the updates are quick but installing still takes ages.
