I'm still using uTorrent portable "settings.dat", I don't get why PortableApps compile a whole new executable in cases like this and "picpick.ini". I like the convenient "Setup Guide" and "Stream" button. After removing the ads with settings thanks to online tutorials, and ipfilter.dat + PeerBlock, I'm good to go.
People are mistaking technology for piracy yet again, unless Linux torrents make you addicted like drugs.
Other -> none. Most Linux distros have decent HTTP mirrors these days (and the ones that don't are generally not very good).
I use utorrent 1.8.5 for private trackers and recently started using qbittorrent portable for public trackers.
I use uTorrent v2.04. The earliest version that has all the needed functions, is truly freeware & no bloatware. I'll never upgrade as long as v2.04 still works.
i'm aware that it's been a while since the post i'm replying to has been posted but still it might come in handy for others. actually it is possible to hide "featured torrent" offer. just go to options->preferences->advanced" and look for "offers.sponsored_torrent_offers_enabled" string, then set the value "false" and it's gone. also you can modify other parameters if you feel like. regards
7 year old thread. I just switched from uTorrent to Transmission 3.0 a couple weeks ago. I really like it.
Never been a fan of torrents as they require active seeding so is a useless system for long term archival. I have been using Shareaza since about 2000. It makes good sense to include sources for a file from the other p2p networks, especially when few seeds are available. eg. I can be downloading a torrent of the latest Mint distro (or whatever) and add sources from G1, G2, ed2k, DC++ and multiple HTTP(S) sources. There is more redundancy options with a multiclient option like Shareaza or one of the other branches such as Envy (it is open source), and the ability to add user reviews and ratings helps to notify others of malware or fakes. As it uses multiple hashes having VirusTotal integration has been a feature for many years. There is a game maps and mods site (mapraider) that uses Shareaza as a mirror to host for all the files available. This allows people to also browse the folders where all the files are stored and add batches of files for downloading.
I rarely download torrents. When I do, I use either the online torrent download website ZbigZ, or the browser Coc Coc, which has a torrent downloader built in. ZbigZ downloads the torrents to their server and once the download is finished, you can download the file with your browser, just like any other download.
I checked Other, KTorrent back on Nov 4, 2012. I now use Qbittorent. First started using it on April 18, 2017.
qbittorrent in my opion the best , I use this badboy since 5 years and never experienced any problems with it!
I was surprised to discover that Free Download Manager has a built-in torrent client. Although I've never used it for that, if I needed to torrent I would try FDM first since I already have it on my system.
