Anybody else concerned about this? It is know that NSA has access to location data on iPhones and now they will have your fingerprint scanned at each location that you unlock your iPhone.
Even if fingerprint sensor is not used how can you be sure that its still not transfering information (just like mic or camera can).
So now in courts you cant contest your cell phone location data by claimg that someone else had your phone since your fingerprint is scanned at each location.

Since every time I fly to US I get my all fingerprints scanned, I am sure NSA (and other agencies) have already them stored somewhere...no worries about Iphone (also because I do not have one..:D )

    Agreed.

Cellphones are basically tracking devices, given what we know about metadata intercepts. And smartphones are even worse. Now we're being enticed to use smartphones with fingerprint scanners? No way.

Does anyone know if all cell phones can have their mics/cams remote controlled or is it just later models?

No one knows for sure, but reportedly it's only certain models that are more susceptible and can be remotely turned on. (Then again, that was the better part of a decade ago now.)

Just be mindful. Put some painter's tape over the front camera. If you get a phone with fingerprint scanning tech, put some over the sensor too. You can get used to removing the battery, but not all phones make this easy or practical (e.g. iPhone). In that case powering down may keep you secure, but you'll increase those odds by putting the phone under pillows/blankets and across the room when having a conversation. Snowden of course had his visitors place their phones in the refrigerator.

If you're out, you're a bit more limited, but surely you can find a way to either muffle or drown out your conversation.

Leave location services off until you need to use them, and turn off wifi when you leave the house.

An aluminum foil (like the one use for wrapping food leftovers) is more than enough to shield any trace.

Before the year is over? I dont think so.
But i do expect most of them to release phones with fingerprint sensors by next year.

Good thing I don't use an iphone5 lol. I simply use a very primitive cellphone with good texting abilities...none of this Big Brother stuff built into it.

Don't really matter when Big Brother has control of mobile carriers, (probably) hardware components, and life as we know it.

Also what someone said about fingerprints is true, when you apply for a US Visa you already gave up basically all of your information, including fingerprints of a complete hand.

    1) It's just the 5S (for now).

    2) All you have to do is put a piece of tape over it and it's completely bypassed.

    3) The real goodies of your phone are stuff that even your "primitive" phone has...metadata that shows whom you communicate with, and when, (and your location, if they wanted it.)

    4) Your older phone is probably more susceptible to microphone snooping, as it may actually be easier to activate (particularly without you knowing), and older lower quality phones typically means lower quality mics, which means they pick up more ambient noise (making them actually better as bugs.)

My fingerprints are on file in many places.

The point is that I don't want my location, activities, calls, browsing, email, etc, etc indexed by my fingerprint. Or my DNA ;)

Bingo. It's just like the front-facing camera...it removes all doubt and any plausible deniability as to who was using the device at any given time.

Put it this way...how would you like to have a record of all your computer activity kept alongside video logs from your webcam that automatically checks to confirm you (the authorized user of your machine) are in fact the one using it?

This is not quite, but almost, the same thing.

Apple has already stated that fingerprints remain on the device and are never uploaded anywhere. I'm not sure why this thread even exists but I can't be bothered reading it as it's probably the usual drool.

What makes you think Apple doesn't lie just like the rest of them? (unless of course youre a fanboi) This thread does exist since it's a privacy forum. Why bother posting on a thread you presume is rubbish and you can't be bothered reading?

Remember, this is the privacy section of Wilders...worst case scenario, looking at things from one angle, it can't be anything but bad etc etc... is usually what's being discussed here. That's why I stay out of their way so they can continue without me interrupting. Three members already bite you in the foot for that comment :D

I also don't think that anyone that has commented in this thread so far will ever get an iPhone, the S5 hasn't been released yet so no one knows exactly how this new ID tech works, what if it's something fantastic and actually very useful? No sorry how could it be, it must be very bad, perhaps even more bad since it comes from Apple :cautious:

Show some evidence that the data actually is uploaded to Apple's servers, and does not stay local on the Phone, instead of just saying "if Apple says that then it has to be true?" :thumb:
