What are you going on about? Nobody said they HAD to do it in any way other than YOU. I just said that it doesn't conflict. o_O Seriously, what is your deal?

I guess malexous is right, 'cause it works fine for my Outlook 2013 (in Office 365) :)

Toolbar shows but if you have several accounts then with antispam enabled then checking emails takes forever. I've been online with Norton support chat today and they confirmed that even Norton 2014 is still not fully compatible with Outlook 2013. They say there should be a patch 'in the future' and suggest that in the meantime go back to Outlook 2010.

It's just the antispam component that has issues - not the email checker.

First thanks for the information :)

Well, the email checker (if you mean the eMail-malware-scanner) itself doens't scan any SSL-connections... Norton admin in the official forum says that Auto-Protect would catch that - sure. But with that argument you could also skip the eMail-scanner for non SSL-accounts

That argument is exactly right and it's the explanation why all e-mail-scanners in all suites are useless marketing features. The file system protection, in Norton's case it's called auto protect, covers those threats already sufficiently and anything it doesn't recognize wouldn't have been recognized by an e-mail scanner either.

Wish there was a side by side comparision between KIS 2014 and NIS 2014.
I think the choice is more or less driven by:

    - being used to the program and how to configure

    - minimum impact on the system

    - good support
Forum, chat. e.g. this morning I had a chat with Norton and a problem was solved. Kaspersky has no chat possibility, as far as I know.
Over here the helpdesk is lousy: it takes a lllong time before replying, even after reminders.
Or they donot reply at all and simply close the ticket after two months. After closing you get a mail asking to rate the feedback...
Or, if you have a suspicious file, you can upload it. Norton gets back to you with the results, Kaspersky only confirms receipt, but no results.
The forum is not working properly: I never get notifications, although that option is tagged and correct mail address is in my forum profile. No, no mails in spam folders/spamboxes.
(Yesterday I changed my email address in the forum profile, I got a windows telling me that I should get a validation mail... but nothing. Have clicked on "send validation" a number of times this morning, 3-4 hours later, still nothing. So I cannot post on the forum, nor send PM's and ... there is no way to contact someone to check this out)

Meaning to say that the 'extra' stuff, often makes users to decide for product X or Y.

I have both NIS and KIS (NIS on my other PC).
Just upgraded my KIS 2013 to 2014.
Still have a year to go ... before the license expires.

You need to scroll a lot in KIS 2014
The 2013 was better, at least that is my opinion.

Guys, one question, does Norton 2014 have the option to ignore a threat when it is detected?

I mean, if you know it is a false positive, can you select to ignore it instead to auto process it by Norton like previous versions??

I know, the Kasperksy-vs-Norton-Discussion is a little off topic, but am I the only one, who found Kaspersky is a real ressource-hog? :D

And the 2014-settings of Kaspersky are less detailed, an packed in a very confusing GUI

Guys, does disabling the tooblar affect any other modules performance?

Does Sonar/IPS/auto protect works with lower efficiency ?

You will lose the Safe Search functionality, but the critical protection modules, the ones you mentioned, are unaffected.

    Thanks!

Safe search is useless for me, i would like to know does this affect download intelligence or any other important module as well?

I believe the Identity Safe (password manager) is built into the toolbar, so that might be disabled if you turn off the bar.

Hmm that's only password manager that i also don't use, so i guess turning off the toolbar, won't affect anything other then that and the safe search/site blocking.

I used to be a big fan of Kaspersky but issues with product a couple of releases back and poor support means I will probably never use it again,it was the support issue that turnmed me against using it,a shock as in the past their UK support had been 1st class

On similar lines, I am not a big fan of Norton's support either - if you have a serious issue it takes so long to get to someone who actually knows the stuff. I know it's just their procedure; but each level tries every method in their book and won't let you off the hook even if it's plainly obvious you know what you are talking about. Though I guess I don't blame them, that's how these big outsourced BPO giants work :D

IMHO support is always useless. I used several antiviruses but never needed support. If you have a problem just google it.

Of course for companies the support is very important because those issues needs to be resolved ASAP and sometimes those problems are company specific.
