Does this AV require a reboot? I am thinking of testing this with Time Freeze.

No that I'm aware of, at least for W7 & W8. Not sure for XP.

Tried the 30 day trial for the program. Threw about 20 or 30 pieces of malware at it, it detected nothing, Windows Defender found 1 and that was the EICAR test file!, and Comodo Firewall's cloud scanner found about 10 of them. I was quite disappointed in the test.

So F-Secure did not even pick up the Eicar File?

In my limited testing (several hundred malware) FS picked up most of my samples, particularly with the DeepGuard module.

Sounds like an install/implementation issue rather than an issue with F-Secure. One thing I noticed is that it took a few reboots before the AV actually turned on (which annoyed me to no end). Perhaps you weren't protected at that time?

FWIW, I was able to reinstall this AV days after it was fully removed from PC days ago.

I'm on Windows 8 Pro and used the F-Secure Uninstallation Tool 3.0 after its regular uninstallation and cleaning of bad registry entries with jv16PowerTools (I don't know if reinstall is always possible without doing these steps anyway).

Reinstallation of the AV started with a fair 365 days of validity.

Thanks for the idea to get the F Secure uninstall utility. I needed to do that to clear out some F Secure folders that would not delete no matter what on Win8

Strangely, the FS uninst tool does not remove those folders, I guess you mean the ones located within C:\ProgramData... To do this, you have to change the owner permission of the FS folder to your own admin name under FS/Properties/Security/Advanced/Owner/Change

Ha, you are right. I'd tried that earlier, but I didn't give it the right permissions since I use my hotmail account to log into win8. Thanks for the advice. The folder is now gone!

I really want to like F-Secure, but their product is really damn hard to remove cleanly. I dont like that at all.

I think it won't do any harm to leave that folder alone, indeed the only thing you need to remove FS is the Windows own uninstaller. The FS uninst tool is meant only for failed removals but in this case we are just using it as extra safety for a clean reinstall.

Btw, I'm going to remove FSAV again so I can test the new TMAV 2014 ;)

Please note that by visiting the F-Secure support pages you can download and upgrade to the 2014 version with a new GUI and Deepguard 5....

    Like!

So did you have Windows Defender actively scanning while also trying to scan with F-Secure?
